One of Bangkok’s best-kept secrets is Khlong Toey, a chaotic, sprawling food market not far from the city’s centre. It’s a travel photographer’s dream, packed with shouting market vendors offering live produce, fresh fruit and vegetables and cooked local dishes. Eye-opening and enthralling, it’s a great insight into how locals live – and to where your moo manow really comes from.

This is a busy working market - used by hotels, restaurants, shops and smaller market stall holders to buy everything from meat and fish to fruit and vegetables. Tourists are tolerated as long as they don't get in the way! If you buy something the price you see will be per kilo unless otherwise stated. Don't haggle - these are... More

This place is huge with anything locals need for everyday life. Meat, fish, fruit, veg, clothes, utensils. Not touristy at all and good if you want to get a flavour of local life or are looking to get produce for cooking lunch or dinner.

This is the most real market I have seen in my 3 weeks in Asia. Huge number of all sorts of vendors and smells so fresh and good. In addition there are so many fruits, vegetables and live animals. Only wish I had a kitchen.

Really a locals market, I think we only saw one other tourist. Motorcycles zipping past, buying as they ride, trash piling up, and lots of food of all types. Not a place I'd take young kids, but not as bad as the reviews make it seem. Yes, smelly and a bit disturbing for those of us that don't see the... More

From Sukhumvit, we decided to walk to the Khlong Toei Market early one morning to catch the scene ot the biggest wet market in Bangkok. It is not for the faint hearted or those who are scared of getting splashed at or slippery ground. Ladies please do not wear ur best shoes or expensive garments here. I received a welcome... More

I went just to browse, ended up walking around for almost 4 hours. I walked, shopped, smiled, and took all the pictures I wanted. Just to share, this place is amazing. It's the largest outdoor market with anything and everything you could imagine.

This floating market isn't really floating as the stalls are mainly on land. However, the food was really good and the prices are cheap. Majority of the customers here were locals, so this is a great place to be if you're looking for an authentic local experience. To get here, you have to get to the Khlong Toei pier (There's... More

Fun to see how the locals live, but if you got teenagers make sure you prepare them for the smell's and the fact they will see live animals in small cages, quick tip: wear enclosed shoes, lots of puddles!
