About
This night market is located inside Patpong, one of Bangkok's most infamous red-light districts. Here, you can get all sorts of souvenirs like knock-off clothing and t-shirts, colorful lights, coconut shell bowls, and even local art. Haggling is expected so try and get yourself a better bargain. Unlike other traditional Thai markets, there aren't many food stalls here. But there are a couple of stands selling yummy Thai street food just outside. The highlight, however, is the adult entertainment venues that surround the market. Check out the neon-lit go-go bars, massage parlors, and discotheques. You can experience Patpong and the nightlife of Bangkok on an evening tour of the city. – Tripadvisor

Top ways to experience Patpong Night Market and nearby attractions
The area
Address
Neighbourhood: Silom
Despite the lack of any major tourist attractions, this lively neighborhood is a favorite of many. Whether it's the (somewhat naughty) nightlife of Soi Patpong, the various handicraft night markets or the plethora of dining options that tickle your fancy, a night out in Silom is a must on every itinerary. It's worth a stop during daytime, too: join office workers on a quest to tasty street food during lunch and shop at Silom Complex for a great mix of Thai and international stores. After a day of strolling around the congested sidewalks, a visit to Silom's Lumphini Park, Bangkok's answer to NYC's Central Park, is a welcome change of scenery.

- JohnHart_13214 contributionsNight market shadow of former selfI first went to here about 20 years ago and it was a large, vibrant market situated within the red light district. You could haggle for all sorts of goods and there was a relaxed vibe about the place. Unfortunately it has now been reduced to a couple of streets selling tacky souvenirs, where you will get the guys touting the "entertainment" of the bars in the street. I guess if you want to walk down a couple of streets and see a few clubs, you can tick off a red light district but it is not worth going for the market.Visited August 2023Travelled with familyWritten 29 September 2023
- Chris BHolyhead, United Kingdom452 contributionsPatkong market at nightThe market itself had everything and like all Thailand markets it was great fun haggling and buying a few bargains. In the streets around the market there was plenty of choice of street food and restaurants and the nightlife was buzzing. Great place to go to if you are in the Silom areaVisited November 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 25 November 2023
- Simon D356 contributionsLeisurely Walk Through Many StallsThis is the first market we have visited. Is everything that one sees when doing the prior research on YouTube!! Vendors are friendly and not pushy at all. A firm, but polite thank you, is all that is required. We entered from Surawong Road. Be careful of the traffic and motor cycles they do stop if you are firm when walking across the zebra crossings. The food element is at the end and is very well frequented. Overall a pleasant market with lots of items to choose from. The goods themselves look genuine but as always in Thailand, buyer beware..Visited March 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 14 March 2024
- N JWoodstock, Canada158 contributionsSleaziest market in Bangkok. Be aware of what you are going to....I did see some people with kids here, but this is not a family friendly market. This is one of the sleaziest markets in Thailand. Ping pong shows, hookers, "massage" parlours, go go bars, etc. Fairly dirty atmosphere overall. There are lots of decent products for sale, prices vary (you must negotiate), and some of the vendors are extremely pushy. The food court is very reasonably priced and most of the food is excellent. I see lots of negative reviews, and I suspect those people had no idea what they were getting into.. Be aware of what you are going to. Jodd Faris market is much more family friendly and cleaner, etc... but they don't have much of this sleazy aspect. If you like that kind of thing, you will love this place. If you don't, seriously... don't come here.Visited January 2024Travelled soloWritten 20 March 2024
- Seebuyfly4 contributionsDon’t go to ping pong showsNice market with on the also some inside shops with very good copy items. The better fake goods. Also nice gogo girl bars. Just don’t go into any ping pong show. You’ll have lots of problems getting out without being scammed.Visited July 2024Travelled with familyWritten 26 July 2024
- BeaSydney, Australia2,494 contributionsNot much to see unless you want pole dancing girls and ping pong showsI am staying on the other side of Silom Road so I thought I’d check out the night markets for food. Prices are not low, you would find cheaper in a cleaner food court. Lots of fake bags, hats, clothes, shoes, whatever designer you want they probably have a fake version. Starts on Silom Rd and backs into the other side opposite Le Meridien. There’s plenty of ping pong shows and bikini dressed girls dancing in clubs luring in all the tourists. Not a place for kids to view as their doors are wide open. As a female solo traveller, I found the bars seedy and tasteless. There are better street food vendors along Park Silom with low prices and delicious food.Visited August 2024Travelled soloWritten 18 August 2024

It’s safe but there are plenty of people trying to entice you into the seedier side of Bangkok’s night life or take advantage of you if you let them – buyer beware. It’s also advisable to be conscious of the security of your valuables as there are loads of people, and every opportunity, to get your pockets picked. Virtually nothing that’s up for sale is the genuine article, and certainly not at the price you are first quoted, or even after a fair bit of haggling! Probably the biggest sharks are the tuk tuk and cab drivers dropping you there, who inflate the price tremendously once you reach the destination or take you away from it.

A market that is heavily focussed on replica goods with prices that are quite high. It is necessary to barter for things (which I hate) but if you are patient you can get a reasonable price. Watches, bags, clothes, wallets, shoes and pens abound. An enjoyable if bizarre experience. Best to stick to central area as stalls on the outside border a lot of bars with people trying to get you in to watch various shows. I would not recommend this area for young children.

Some tourist lives center around shopping. If that is you, then Phatpong is a good place to haggle over the shop worn goods sold there. I live 2 blocks from here and I see vendors unpacking and packing their wagons every day. I often wonder how many times the same goods have been packed and unpacked. I would say, to get a flavor of bangkok life, it is worth a stroll through to see how things work here in Bangkok. You will be tempted by the knock off goods like my friend who bought 3 watches (boy, they looked so genuine). He told me that 2 of the 3 watches stopped working within 3 months of him returning home. So, look but don't touch. (ha ha ha). Phatpong is also home to many gogo bars and nightlife, so be warned if this offends you. Certainly worthy of seeing. You do not want to return home and when someone asks "did you go to Phatpong" ?, say no.

Me and my boyfriend decided to go to a ping pong show with another couple we met on our trip. We heard it was a really popular show to see! So a man outside said the price would be 100 baht for entry with a drink for this price too.
So in we went, we confirmed with the man that it would only be 100 baht each, and we also confirmed with the 2 waitresses. So we watched the show, which was extremely odd, the women with no smiles on their faces, just wish we never went.
The second we finished our drinks we were all escorted to behind the bar, I gave my 200 baht straight over. All of a sudden about 8 butch ladies appeared and kicked off as we needed to apparently pay 1000 baht each! I was so fuming. The other couple that we went with were trying to stand their ground, but the girl burst into tears, and the butch lady hit her on the chest and was pushing her into the wall! The lady was shouting at my friend, and told her to go up on stage and do what they do! Such an unpleasant experience which I never want to encounter again.
So I actually didn’t have this amount in my purse, and she took all the money out of my purse and took me downstairs to an ATM. I wasn’t allowed to go alone and nobody was allowed to come with me! It was horrible, I was shaking. I came back up and she snatched the money out of my hands! They were so nasty and shouting so loudly. Pushing and shoving. I never want to be in that situation ever again. Horrible people. Because they actually took more money out of my purse, in currently down £70 after that horrible evening.

Having heard so much about ping pong shows we ventured into one last night after dinner! Well aware what kind of establishment it would be we see we sat down and ordered drinks. We stayed for around 15 mins and watched these girls pop balls from their noonies and blow candles out which we were given to hold! We parted with about £70 whilst in there for tips and dancers begging us to buy them drinks. When we got up to leave 3 burly women who were very friendly taking our money turned rather nasty. One stood in front of the exit and locked the door! The next few minutes were a bit of a scary blur but we Managed to escape without parting with any more money, which is what they were clearly after!
DO NOT GO TO THESE THINGS and they will have to close. We didn’t read the reviews and wondered in quite innocently. We can now laugh about it but please be WARNED!!

This is a night market off Siloam road.
Center of street is all merchandise stalls: bags, clothes, belts, souvenirs you name it. Right hand side are strip clubs and ping pong shows.
Concerning the market, the prices are far from fixed. You need to bargain, and bargain hard. Sometimes you can end up buying the item for half or third of the original price. (They use a calculator for this process, they type their price, and you type yours etc)
Many men and woman will urge you to enter the strip coins or shows, but they are not pushy. The moment you say thank you, they will leave you alone.
Enjoyable 1/2-1 hour walk.
Recommended!

Dangerous........ We were two women shopping at the markets, when we were asked if we wanted to come in for a drink. We were told it would cost 300BHT each, we agreed and went in. There was a show, not very good I might add. We hadn’t finished our beers when we were told we needed to go up to the bar & pay. We did what was asked, however we were being charged 1300BHT each, we said no to this, at that we were physically pushed and shoved & prevented from leaving until we paid.
Do not ever go into this bar, it is very scary and dangerous!

Whatever brings you to Patpong in the evening it's hard to miss the night market; and if you do come to Patpong for the night market be sure to take in the area. It's all here...every tourist souvenir you could ever dream of...and it's all yours...if you barter for it. Take it with a pinch of salt and enjoy.

Patpong market is now exclusively ’ping pong’ shows or hugely expensive fake products. The stalls all sell the same items and the stall holders ask massively inflated prices that even a robust haggle will still leave you out of pocket.
Chattuchak market has a better selection and a lot of stalls have fixed prices.

Always good to see but just be cautious as a lot of pick pocket. Stay away from all ping pong shows as they are just a scam. If it's a drink you want grab a beer from the open bars or 7/11. Some good copy items but make sure you barter as the put their price up extremely. A tee shirt wi start at 700 baht but you will most likely get it for 200 to 250 baht as with many of the other things. Good copy watches and bags. The street around are also fun to walk through. Just be cautious.

Has anyone ever been battered(physically beaten) for not complying with the extortion attempts of the criminal element that control these tombs of sexploitation at the Patong market sex shows?
Written 15 November 2019
Yes, it’s not unheard of someone to be physically assaulted in one of these places. They are run by the Thai mafia and most people would rather pay than have the confrontation when badly outnumbered. Sometimes alcohol causes a lapse in judgement and crap happens.

Patpong market happy bar is a SCAM!!!!!These guys with their pingpong show, pussy show and whatever kind of lists on the street actually lured us in this Happy bar, (the one right next to Kings Castle ) and said that the show is free - we only had to pay for the beers we had. In the end they didnt want to let us out, threatened us, and called some other guys to stay by their side. Instead of the free show we had to pay 500 baht just so they let us out...never ever go there!
Written 31 July 2019
This is true and I don't recommend anybody to go there.
They are all owned by the same mafia!
I knew of this scam and went there just to test them.
Initially they told us that it cost 100 baht and that we could have "a free look".
When we did this but declined the same seller took us to another club, which we also just went up to look then left.
After that they were all over us trying to get us into a club.
One male seller took us to a another, same story "only 100 baht, free look".
He pulled my by my wrist trying to get me further into the club.
I told him firmly to come and discuss with me and I asked what the entrence fee really is.
After a while he then admitted that the "100 baht" thing is just for the drink, then we will be charged 500 baht each.
I said no thanks and had to pull his grip from my wrist and quickly move away.
Again I say, BIG WARNING! You never know what they really will charge you!
