From clear instructions via WhatsApp to locate the meeting point to a knowledgeable host who was friendly and always made sure everyone felt welcome. This is definitely a must for a Thai visit. The class was small and intimate. The recipes are great and even my cooking tasted amazing. You get the recipes printed out which is very helpful. Highly recommendVisited August 2024Travelled soloWritten 14 August 2024
- Cathy L4 contributionsAn authentic taste of ThailandFrom the minute I arrived - early and in a downpour I was welcomed into this wonderful school. Yui was a wonderful host and teacher, at times I was so absorbed in watching her effortless preparation and cooking I then forgot what I was meant to do. Yui was always in hand to guide and make sure I was going to produce the most wonderful dishes. I cooked four courses which meant there was too much for me to eat during the afternoon, the remaining food was packaged for me to eat later. Yui went out of her way to support my journey back to my hotel. A wonderful afternoon and I would fully recommend, whether solo or with a group. A real taste of Thailand, cooked by you and then enjoyed by you! Thank you ❤️Visited September 2024Travelled soloWritten 18 September 2024

I Highly recommend this great team. I have done cooking classes in Cambodia, Vietnam, Philippines and Thailand. This places is hands down the best. From their own garden to your own plate, they show you how and why. Next time I am in SE Asia, I will make a detour just to go to another of their cooking classes, they are that good.

I highly recommend Baipai. I am an enthusiastic home cook and have been to many cooking schools. I think Baipai is a cut above most. The instructor Chef Yui was clear and systemic in her teaching. I learnt basic techniques as well as finer nuances of thai cooking. Suitable for beginners but also very useful for more experienced cooks. The school itself is in a pleasant “home” setting and the facilities are clean and in good condition.

Thoroughly enjoyed our cooking morning and would definitely recommended. Our market guide, Som, was lovely and very friendly throughout the morning. Collection at a nominated location nearby our hotel was followed by a great market tour and cooking class in a fantastic setting. Chef Charles and Som were very helpful throughout. Definitely recommend.

The scenery was so good and I was able to slowly show all the food and watch it! An outdoor cooking class was one of my bucket lists, and it was perfect today! Next time you come to Thailand, I'd like to come back on another menu day!

Good, if you like being talked down to. Vicky, the chef’s assistant, treated us as if we were taking a cooking course for kids. She asks you to enthusiastically repeat the names of dishes. If you just mutter it under your breath, she makes the whole class repeat again and again until we sound like a chorus of baboons performing a trick to zoo goers. The format is set up where you watch the chef cook first and then you get 5 minutes at your station to prepare the same dish that took the chef 15 minutes to cook. It feels like they are rushing you through the class. If you take a second to read the recipe as opposed to just dumping all the pre-portioned ingredients into your wok, Vicky comes over and does it for you. During one of the recipes, she said my dish was finished when the chicken was clearly still purple. Not just a little pink, but purple. Don’t let her push you around. You’re the one who has to eat your cooking, so take your time and cook it right. On another dish, she watched me dump my seasonings in immediately followed by the protein. Then she yelled, “It’s burnt.” Really? I don’t see anything that’s dark brown or black. How is my dish burnt already?
Anyway, I think her purpose is to translate the chef, but he speaks perfect English. So, instead, she just repeats what he says. “Now you add sugar.” “SUGAR.” “…and salt.” “SALT.” “…and chilies.” “CHILIES.” However, the most annoying part of Vicky, that made my eyes roll, is when she would insult you and then say, “I’m joking,” with her strange interpretation of a British accent.
I felt like I was sitting through and infomercial with an overly enthusiastic annoying host constantly soliciting exciting remarks and applause. When it was time for us to cook, she would ask, “What – time – is – it?” and waited for our annoyed reply of “It’s – Cooking – Time.”
The food was pretty good, but most of the cooking is done by the silent helpers who pre-portion the ingredients at your station. When you reach your station, all you have to do is dump the ingredients into the wok and stir. That’s why I described it as a Combining Class and not a Cooking Class. You can pretty much find the same thing at any Gourmet Grocery Store where they have pre-packaged foods that you combine at home in your frying pan and feel like you’ve made a home-cooked meal.
At 1800bht a person, this was the biggest waste of money in Bangkok. I wish we tried the cooking class offered at our hostel, which was only 500bht. Even if it wasn’t very good, at least you don’t feel trapped b/c BaiPai is located way South of Central Bangkok. If we tried to walk out (which we considered), we wouldn’t be able to find a taxi or the local Skytrain station. All in all, I’m giving this 2 stars, b/c the food did taste good. The experience was horrible though.

We are family with 3 children (18, 12, 9),
Is the cooking workshop suites for kids? How long it takes, is it in English and how can I register?
Written 28 June 2019
We are a family of four (kids 17 and 15).
We had a ball.
Their English is near perfect and their hosting is spot on.
All up from hotel pickup to drop off was about 5 hours, cos traffic was bad on the way home (and we stopped to buy beer).
We booked through a travel agent but I believe you can book online.
