We had a full-day cooking class in Chiang Mai. We drive to the food market and meet Kong, our chef. He guides us around the various stalls, showing us the different fruits, vegetables and spices that we don't have at home.

We then head to his school/kitchen, the Thai Orchid Cookery School, which is all ready for our culinary adventure. They are incredibly well organized. Nine cooking stations are set up, and there's a classroom with an angled mirror to see what he's doing from up above. And there's a dining room for us to enjoy what we cook.

Kong ends the day with a cookbook, with recipes of what we've made as well as recipes from other classes of his. And he signs it, which is fun.

The way they design the day is like the dishes disappear by themselves, and a new set-up for the next dish magically appears. It was wonderful. Don't miss this if you are anywhere near. In fact, it's worth a drive to do this.

This was probably my favorite part of our entire trip to Thailand! My husband and I went with one of our couple friends and there was one other couple in the class with us. Kong took us on a fun market tour where we learned a lot. His cooking demonstrations really showed us how to cook the food and everything turned out delicious! Everyone had a blast! Absolutely recommend.

A must do in Chiang Mai - Kong was amazing from the get go, we emailed ahead as my friend is a celiac and he was very quick to reply and confirm everything and say she would be ok!

The class is very well organised, there’s a good variety of food to choose from and Kong is just such a good teacher - it’s also very informative and he takes you to the local market and explains lots of different foods etc.

And it’s just loads of fun and you get to eat everything!!

Highly recommend!

What an amazing experience! We cooked spring rolls, yellow curry, stir-fried chicken and steamed bana cake. The chef made it look easy! It all started at the market and we learned the names of many new fruits and veggies! A not-to-be-missed experience!

This was by far one of the best experiences my boyfriend and I had. It was very easy to book months in advance. We were picked up on time from our hotel and brought to the location. Kong was our guide and he was absolutely lovely. He was very knowledgeable and throrough in his explanations. We got to cook various meals that were delicious, extremely authentic with helpful tips and techniques, even focusing on the presentation. You get a cookbook of all the recepies too, so you’ll have many more opportunities to try cooking the meals at home. We were also taken to this local market where Kong explained different fruits and veggies to us, even gave us a taste of a few items. The whole experience was incredible, definitely recommend!

Three of my friends and I were picked up on time in an air conditioned van to begin our amazing day! Kong was awesome and spoke English very well. We began our day by making egg rolls and spring rolls. Kong was very patient with us all and provided great instructions. The next part of the day was my favorite- we went to a local market and learned about the typic Thai dishes, meats, fruits, and vegetables. I liked that a culture lesson was included. After that, we returned to make our pad Thai, curry, and dessert. Everything tasted phenomenal and was easy with Kong’s help. Best meal of the entire trip and one of my favorite activities!

Visited The Thai Orchid Cookery Class and had the pleasure of learning from Kong. Very friendly guy who makes learning how to cook thai food fun and enjoyable.
Explained each step along the way and was helpful incase we got stuck.
He took us to the local market and explained what some of the fruit and vegs were used for generally and where it originates from as well as giving ideas on what we could use it for.
At the end of the morning we had prepared a 3 course thai meal and it was brilliant..we also each got a cooking recepie book which has lots of different recepies to try.
Overall a fun and interesting course..you must try for the experience.

Just finished the most amazing day at Thai Orchid! My husband and I are visiting Thailand on our honeymoon, and when I told him I had booked a Thai cooking class he was less than thrilled. You see, I’ve cooked my entire life and feel very comfortable in any culinary situation... and if you left him to his own devises he would probably burn water if he could figure out how to turn on the stove.

The day started with a great ride in a comfortable roomy and air conditioned van. Kong picked us up promptly in our hotel lobby, and already had two other lovely ladies in the car. We rode just a few minutes to a cute little family style complex where we were introduced to a dining room, individual cooking station, and hands on class room.

We got to start the day making delicious spring rolls! What a perfect way to get a bite before heading to the market. Kong walked us through a selection of stalls and explained different fruits, vegetables, fresh fish, and spices used in Thai cooking. We got to taste a few things and look around a little on our own while he purchased the necessary ingredients.

After that it was back to the compound for back to back cooking of 3 more dishes, each more fun than the last. He demonstrated everything clearly and really made everyone feel like it was a piece of cake. The final results were delicious and you could customize your flavor profile in each dish to your preference. It was an incredible day.

Honestly, you could be a professional chef or a complete novice in the kitchen and you will have a fun, informative, and inclusive experience. My husband even just said it was one of his favorite experiences of our 3 week trip. Thank you so much Kong for offering such a wonderful experience... we truly will never forget it.

This was a good value, really well run experience that involved cooking four different dishes and visiting the local market for a tour. The facilities were spotless and very professional, with three helpers available at any point. Our guide spoke English very well and was very friendly. Overall, a great morning that I would recommend highly. Tip: don't eat before your class!

I was a little sceptical about this place. Considering all the positive reviews I thought there must be something weird. But...I was wrong.

We went for a cooking course - the four of us - and ended in a groups of 9 in total. It started on time and ended on time. We cooked the started, ate it, went to the market, had some amazing explanation on Thai food, went back to cook the desert, followed by the mains, then are the mains and the desert.

The setting and organisation of the day is extremely well thought and the teacher/owner could answer all our questions. We've been travelling around and love to cook food, from Europe to Asia through south America and the middle East, so we consider us as fairly experienced cooks. But we got some knowledge from this course nonetheless and had a really nice time. Unless you're a trained professional cook, we'd highly recommend you to join Kong and his team.
