This was my second visit to Chiangmai and my second visit to this place. The first time around, my driver took us to this place, and impressed me. A huge area just for gardening enthusiasts.
A walk at this market to see and shop would probably take a whole day. The sellers don’t speak much English, probably just enough to get the deal through. However, the whole area is impeccably clean for a place selling gardening supplies.
You would find anything related to botany here, probably, ranging from flowers, to seeds to plants and terra-cotta pots. The prices are reasonable and hobbyists would just love this place and want to buy “everything” back! The problem is, how do we carry our them home?

The best time to visit is early in the morning, before it gets too hot! This nursery has so many things a gardener wants or needs: plants, trees, orchids, succulents, lawn sods, ground covers, pots, stepping stones, sprinklers, gardening tools, etc., you name it! They also make delivery if you buy in large quantity or will charge you a nominal fee. And if you just want to browse to see what tropical plants there are in Thailand, this is a good place to visit!

OF all the little discoveries I made as a tourist visiting Chiang Mai finding this colourful and fascinating giant probably gave me the most pleasure.
It is quite simply vast. No other descriptive term is good enough to do it justice.
I hired a tuktuk driver to take me there and that proved to be a great decision because I really had no idea what I was walking into or the sheer scale of the place.
Why having a tuktuk driver with you is so helpful is because you would otherwise be exhausted at the end of exploring this market.
My advice is to do what I did and get your driver to take you to the edge of the market where you simply pick a road or alley and start exploring within sight of your tuktuk. When you have exhausted that area, just give a wave and the tuktuk will catch up with you, ferry you on a couple of hundred metres or so and then stop while you browse a completely different set of stalls. That way you expend your energy exploring without having to walk miles as well.
And it may well be possible to walk miles. I only scratched the surface of this place which is a kaleidoscope of colour.
One section had nothing but the most beautful displays of orchids, another had nothing but trees including some in giant tubs which appeared fully grown while another section specialised in nothing but brilliantly coloured ceramic garden ornaments.
It was like Christmas everywhere you went with a surprise viewing gift at almost every twist and turn.
One stall had giant terracotta heads, another had scores and scores of hanging baskets which was a bit of a challenge to go round, others had hundreds of trays of bedding plants and still more offered battalions of shrubs many of which were in full flower.
I was like a kid in a sweet shop and my grinning tuktuk driver was delighted I had picked her up because she said she had never spent so much time here before and had never realised just how big the place was. She also said she now planned to offer trips out there to her passengers solely because of what she had seen there that day.
Pressing deeper into this sprawling market, we went past stalls offering flower stands in wrought ironwork, other stalls offering fountains or trailing plants and even stalls which had graded their plants and flowers by colour.
If you like gardening and do nothing else while in Chiang Mai then make sure you find your way to this delightful market, but take care. It may be possible to walk round and do it justice but you stand more chance of not exhuasting yourself if you have a tuktuk or a bicycle.
This is a delightful place and I had a tremendous amount of fun exploring it. So will you and I have no hesitation in recommending Kamthiang Flower and Plant Market to any visitor.

Khamtiang Market has everything. There are shops sellling garden furniture and ornaments. endless sellers of plants from the smallest to fully grown trees. Coffee shops, antiques and many other even artistic things and pet shops. If you are into gardening, many of the shops are are decorated to present a gardenlike appearance where you might find some great ideas for home. ts easy to spend hours there.

Just a short distance out of Chiang Mai approx. 4 klms, there are a wide array of flowers and plants. Everything from Daisies to Cactus to Palms to Orchards. The list goes on. They are all set out out in stalls for your viewing. All beautifully laid out. The people are very helpful and have great knowledge of the plants they are selling. Not over crowded and a pleasant way to spend a bit of time during the day. We went for a look and stayed 2 hours. Even those without a green thumb will enjoy the outing with the amount of effort these people put into there stalls.

This fabulous market is only 10 mins by taxi from the Old City and is probably best visited about 10am during the week, unless you like crowds of course. Trip Advisor calls this a flower market and there are some stunning orchids in particular, but there's everything a person could need for a garden.
I kept finding myself reaching for the wallet then had to play the "how do I get it back home" game, before buying some nice items for very good prices.
This is very much a family friendly place with plenty of food and drink options. I'll be bringing them nexy visit but might have to leave the wallet at home, I'm sure they'll love it as well.

This place isn't comparable with anywhere I've been before - and I LOVE tropical plants, been to Caribbean Islands etc.. Awesome & indescribable (and I'm not a gushy person)!! It is streets of jaw dropping trees e.g. palms, oozing with plants e.g. orchids, air plants etc., flowers, colour, texture, pots, garden ornaments . . . the list goes on - plus an amazing oasis of a coffee and cake shop Chee Waa Garden (though I think they're landscapers). You can take air conditioning reprieve afterwards in Tesco Lotus next door. I defy any true gardener, especially tropical plant gardener to leave empty handed - wherever in the world you may live. Would love to visit when the organic market is on - as I went on a weekday.

Khamthiang Markets is just behind Lotus Tessco on the Superhighway. There are acres of nurseries, garden shops, landscaping supplies vendors and much more. If you need something for the garden, whether it be plants, scrubs, trees, garden supplies, water features, paving, then this is the place. Or you can just enjoy an hour or two wandering through the gardens.
There are also lots of little coffee shops and food outlets and the JJ Thai area is adjacent if you need some liquid refreshment, most open at night only.
A good option is to spend the morning wandering around Khanthiang and have the lunch special promotion at the adjoining Steakhouse restaurant.

This was a lovely place with so many different flowers and also different colours which we don't see in Europe (blue for example). We didn't see many tourists here, but if you like flowers arranged and sold loose its well worth a visit. Before we got to the flowers there were stalls selling dried fruit and nuts and other food for the local people, so it really was authentic.

This place is not meant for tourists but if you are and enjoy flowers , live fish,pottery for gardens , tropical plants etc. This is your place. About 10 sq blocks of supplier's pluscoffee and light food restaurants on the peripheral of "stores". This is a large center where Thais and expats go for their garden needs.

Different parts of the market open at different times. Most of the landscape suppliers and plant sellers open from around 8am, some earlier. Some of the bigger landscape shops open later. Some seasonal plant stores only open at some times.
