About
World’s First Silver Sanctuary World’s First Silver Sanctuary, located at Wat Sri Suphan (Sri Suphan Temple), Chaingmai, Thailand. The Abbot of Sri Suphan Temple, Phrakru Phitak Suttikun (Suphon Suthasilo), Temple Committees, Devotees, and group of Lanna craftsman had been constructed the silver sanctuary by using the former base, former boundary stones and former principle Buddha image (Phra Jao Jed Tue, built in B.E. 2043.). The Silver Sanctuary was built and decorated by Silver Handicraftsmen (Lanna folk wisdom) of Wua Lai Community that has been descended from their ancestors. The sanctuary is decorated with the pure silver on the most crucial and safety parts. Aluminum was used for the decoration of the rest of the sanctuary areas, instead of using pure silver for the whole building. Inside the sanctuary, each carved wall consists of the stories of Lord Buddha, Buddhist Doctrine, History of Phra Jao Liab Lok and Phra Jao Prod Lok (Thai Buddha’s preaching stories), Buddha’s footprint, and the happiness life in believe of Buddhism. On the other hand, the outside of the sanctuary’s walls are symbols of National Institute, Religion, and Royal Family, 4 Lotuses indicating 4 types of human recognition, Personification, King of Naga, ASEAN countries, World’s famous cities, the King’s literary work; Mahajanaka Jataka, Srithandon, and 12 Zodiac Signs. These stories are shown for the stronger believes in Buddhism. The Silver sanctuary has been established since B.E. 2547 for the first time by group of Lanna craftsman using the local wisdom (Silver Crafts) for the decoration; taken for more than 12 years to be completed, with the donation from all believers as total amount of 35,152,314 Thai Baht (Thirty Five Million One Hundred and Fifty Two Thousand Three Hundred and Fourteen). Finally, the construction of World’s First Silver Sanctuary has been completed and ready for all religious services. It is also be the conservation of Wua Lai Community’s wisdom (Silver Handicraft) as a learning center, as religious teaching method, Life’s navigation for all visitors. The most importantly, we have been completed the determination for this sanctuary to become a National Memorial for Thai people and to praise our His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej (9th monarch of the Chakri Dynasty). Wat Sri Suphan would like to invite all believers and visitors to our opening ceremony of World’s First Silver Sanctuary and the celebration of 720th Year Anniversary of Nophaburi Sri Nakhonping during 28 March – 3 April 2016.

    Highly rated! Must go
As known as the Silver temple What an incredible find. This is not within the old town and so isn’t on the main list of temples to see but totally should be. Seriously what an incredible temple. The silver plated temple is just stunning and so is all the surroundings. Women are not allowed inside but the outside was gorgeous enough. There was a guy there that did a talk and some meditation for 10’mins. Don’t know if it’s a ploy for a donation or what but it was really calming and actually perfect for the area. There was not 1-2 other people on the whole place so it was very peaceful being there and taking it all in. It’s 50baht entry but they give you a paper guide, water and a key ring. The lady even came out and gave me some info as I was walking around. There was something magical about this place. Totally worth a visit

    Well with a visit.
An stunning and impressive Silver Temple complex. Unique design and well worth a visit. The entrance fee of Bht 50 includes a key ring, bottle water and an information leaflet. Staff all very friendly. Some crafts, such as silver beating, being demonstrated by monks around the exterior of the temple. Females are not permitted to enter the interior of the main silver temple. Plenty of places to cool off and get a drink or snack.

    Worth a stop.
If you are in Chiang Mai, particularly the Old City, you are reccomended to stop by. Whilst the temple may not be as old as some sources indicate, it's really fascinating to see. The craftsmanship is really incredible.

    The silver temple
This is Chiang Mai's distinctive silver temple. Steps away from its walled city, Wat Sisuphan is unique and picturesque. Interior is particularly ornate with gleaming silver walls surrounding the golden Buddha. Admission is 50 bahts.

    Stunning and unique
Wow!! A truly stunning and unique temple in Chiang Mai. The contrast of the temple being silver with blue steps and surrounded by good Buddhas is amazing. A must see if visiting Chiang Mai.

A must see when in Chang Mai
It is 50 bahts each to enter but worth every penny and more! The silver temple is very different both inside and out compared to most other Thai temples. Be aware that women are not allowed to enter the actual temple building itself but can walk around the rest of the complex and enter all the other buildings. The silver and pewter metal work on both the interior and exterior of the temple was simply incredible

    Probably the most jaw-dropping temple…
…in Chiang Mai but unfortunately only men are allowed inside, meaning 50% of all visitors miss out on the interior. Women do get a conciliatory key ring but that doesn’t make up for it. However, for those of us who do get to go inside, it’s just as beautifully ornate and striking as the exterior. Truly breathtaking craft has gone into this!

Thailand has so many great temples, this one is very unique and probably one of the most beautiful ones. It is a little hidden in Chiang Mai , so ask your way around or get a taxi it tuk-tuk . This is a fantastic artist piece of work with so much to discover in such a small temple.

Amazing silver temple, really makes an impression! There is only one disadvantage - women cannot enter the temple inside :(

I figured there would be plenty to see in the area even if I can’t go into the temple itself. I was wrong. Apart from the smallish temple itself there’s mostly donation boxes. The exterior decorations of the temple are very nice but even those you can only see from a distance. Turns out the most interesting details I wanted to see in person were inside the temple. The entrance fee is not bad but I could have just saved myself the walk here and look at the pics online.
