This museum, housed in a former courthouse, offers an illustrative glimpse of Lanna culture and traditions. It provides an introduction to the distinctive features of northern Thai architecture and religious art. There are extended exhibition on teak decorations and Buddhist statues of different materials. Visitors will be able to understand more about the past grandeur of the Lanna kingdom. Admission is 90 baht.

There are several interesting museums in Chiang Mai, and the Lanna Folklife museum is probably the best.
It’s certainly, as we experienced, a good wet weather activity, but whatever the weather, it’s definitely worth visiting.
Staff are very helpful and welcoming. Do not rush! Each room contains a wealth of information about the history of Chiang Mai with some very interesting artifacts, photographs and models.
Don’t expect lots of interactive displays but do expect to see how the city developed over the years.
We spent a couple of hours wandering around and, much to our delight, we came across a really interesting little coffee shop and gift shop at the end of our tour.
Highly recommended.

The Lanna Folklife Museum was located directly opposite the Three Kings Monument. It cost 90 baht for an adult / 40 baht for a child to enter 1 museum, and 180 baht for an adult / 80 baht for a child for a combined ticket valid for 7 days to enter all 3 museums. There were several galleries with displays focusing on Lanna Buddhism, artwork, and clothes. There were detailed description panels in Thai, English, and Mandarin Chinese. This was by far the most engaging museum among the three. The staff graciously let us stay 15 minutes past the closing time for us to finish touring the museum.

As we found ourselves at a little bit of a loss at what to do in Chiang Mai without travelling alot, we decided to visit the Lanna Folklife Museum. We were very pleasantly surprised - for 180baht, access to not only the Folklife Museum but the Historical Centre and Centre for Arts was granted which is amazing value! Fascinating exhibitions and well-organised display which kept us entertained for at least 4hrs and a lovely outside area to reflect on our day. A great day out if you’re in the Old Town Area and some lovely time away from the hustle and bustle of city life :)

We discovered this museum on the map and thought it looked interesting. It is quite large but extremely well laid out if you follow the arrows on the floor. It provides a good history of how Chiang Mai came to be established and insights into the culture of the region. Far better than you might expect to find in a provincial city. We combined it with a visit to Wat Chiang Man about a 15 minute walk away for a very pleasant final morning of our holiday.

This was really a treat. It has excellent information about the development of Buddhism, the Thai culture, and beautiful art. The curator introduced herself to us and walked around with us the entire time. This was one of the highlights of my November 2024 visit to Thailand.this is a good event for learned adults, but would not appeal to children.

Very interesting and informative museum. Dual price entry…non Thais 90 THB & Thais 20 THB but well worth the money. Exhibits are very well displayed and labeled in English and Thai.
Helpful staff and more suited to adults than children. Certainly wasn’t busy when we visited and worth taking time wandering around.
Highly recommended.

Very thoughtfully put together with some insights into life in the historical lives of Lanna people. Stunning mural depicts this. Only minor downside is that it is a quick walk around so you might want to revisit some areas, or visit the cultural centre on the opposite side of the road on the same trip, the latter having more to see and is equally as fascinating

This was a great introduction to the people and culture of Chiang Mai. The exhibits were interesting and nicely laid out. The three museum complex are next to each other so I'd suggest buy the group ticket. This was my favorite of the three museums but all were very interesting.

I went with my wife to a few museums that day and by far this was my favorite one. It's by yourself, and no one bothers you. It is laid out well. Lots of ancient Thai weaving exhibits
