Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Visiting this cave was part of our itinerary in the Bai Tu Long Bay cruise. I have visited several of these kind in Thailand and Indonesia. So this is non unique. But I like the short and exciting hike to the cave which has a very narrow entrance. Only one person with some maneuver can either enter or exit at one time. This cave has only one entry point. The other opening looks out to the steep fall into the sea. So visitors eill have to wait for their turn while entering or exiting.
The inside of the cave has very well lit 2 chambers. Wonderful ventilation. The natural sculpting of limestone are mesmerizing.
On your way down, there is a diversion that leads to a small hidden beach which is really beautiful.
Please wear good trainers for the best experience.

The Horizon Agency, of Hanoi, thanks to a professional, competent, efficient, expert, attentive, always present and, above all, very helpful staff, organized a perfect and exciting trip for us which allowed us to immerse ourselves in history, in ' art, in the nature of Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos; these elements would unite the three States with the many others we have visited if it were not for an added value that they have transmitted and given to us: positivity and optimism! Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos have a sad and painful past in common but they have been able to react with determination and dignity, thus managing to build a future and a present worthy of being lived. I really believe that we should learn from them how to manage serious, difficult and painful situations.

Likes:
Nice and impressive cave.
Steps good for a walk.

BIG dislikes:
This is an overcrowded tourist attraction. Thousands of tourists are crawling like ants on the stairs and taking pictures.
And the tourist guides are using laserpointers to show out the figures in the cave. Very annoying on your photographs and video.

Td:lr - If this cave is on your cruise itinerary, skip it.

This cave is extremely small to begin with and to make it worse the case has a single point of entry that is single file. The cruise ships bring a massive amount of tourists to and through this cave making the conditions cramped and hot. I would only recommend this cave if you've never seen a cave and never plan on seeing another cave in your life. Otherwise, you're better off enjoying the views of the islands surrounding the cave.

Nice little cave and island, bit crowded and short walk-thru cave, good for a short diversion during bay tours.

Thien Canh Son Cave is the only cave in the Bai Tu Long area of Halong Bay, so it is included on most of the cruise boats itineraries that are licensed to operate in this area.

But Thien Canh Son is a dark, dank and dismal specimen of a cave compared to some of the bejewelled wonders of caves I have seen elsewhere, particularly the Australian Jenolan and Wombeyan Caves.

But if you want to see it be prepared for a 100 step steep climb up the hillside, then watch your footing as you step on the slimy cave floor, and watch your head for low hanging rocks and stalactites

If you venture far enough, you will come to the higher cave opening, which does offer some spectacular views of this part of Halong Bay.

Perhaps it was worth the effort after all!.

A rather unimpressive cave, this place is completely overrun with cruise boats and tourists. The lines into the cave are long and often congested as aged overweight people struggle to climb the steps in the heat and humidity. We should have just stayed on the boat and slept in....

Like other caves in Halong Bay this cave gets very busy with tourists. Our party arrived at 7:30am and we walked up hill in line with everyone else, By the time we departed (about 45 minutes later) the whole climb up to the cave (man made steps) was a people jam.

There are plenty of steps leading up to the cave and some inside. There is only one entrance and it only allows one person in or out at a time, It's tight in places but where it broadens out you can walk anywhere that you want.
There are stalactites in the cave but nothing of any note.

This was a morning stop on an overnight cruise, it’s a easy walk up 100 steps and down if wet would recommend sneakers for the walk down as can be slippery. Apparently Cave is one of the largest in the bay. It has a high-ceiling space with glistening stalactites scattered everywhere, hanging down from the ceiling and growing up from the floor. The beach is in the way back, it is good for photos.
