Earlier reviews of Ha Long Bay itself mention trash. I was very pleased to see barely any trash once we got away from the port area. Single-use plastics have been banned for some time now, which will have helped enormously.

Anyway, to our trip... from our pick-up at Hanoi Opera on an extremely comfortable minibus to when we were dropped back there the following day, we thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience.

The staff were excellent. The boat has 22 cabins and was full, I think. Each cabin has a private balcony, where you can sit and enjoy the views. There was a corner jacuzzi in our cabin, which would be nice if you go in winter.

There were only 5 Westerners onboard, but both the boat manager and assistant manager spoke very good English and made sure that all announcements were made in English as well as Vietnamese.

The other staff were also excellent and the service of a high standard. The food was good and plentiful - a bit too plentiful, actually. We felt guilty at having to leave so much of what was put on our table. An earlier review mentioned lack of drinking water. Perhaps that comment was acted on, as there was free drinking water with all meals, on the launch for trips off of the boat, and there to greet us when we returned from them.

The short trips off the boat are all worth doing as long as you know what to expect. The trip to Surprising Cave was our favourite. The cave is massive and the lighting shows off the features well. The kayaking is for only a short time around a small bay, which was crowded with other kayakers. The 'bamboo boat' option around the same small bay was not on bamboo boats, just large rowing boats. The swimming trip is to a small man-made beach, but it was lovely to get into the water to cool off.

My daughter enjoyed the karaoke in the evening, which had lots of Western songs to choose from. However, the best thing of all was sitting up on the top deck, sipping a G&T and watching the incredible sunset.

We did a 2 nights 3 days cruise and we love it. we could see lots and enjoy the stay without too much rush. the service from the staff was great, very friendly and polite. we enjoyed great sunrise, sunset and full moon. Was amazing. The room was big and bed super comfortable.. everything works perfect including the Jacuzzi, which is was great to use while enjoying the sunset. I totally recommend the cruise. i guess we are so greatfull to have the chance to do it before the coronavirus craziness started all over the globe.

After reading the many, many mixed reviews of Ha Long Bay boat cruises, I decided that I would rather pay an additional USD50 to a 100 and do a "better" one-night cruise instead of a "mediocre" 2-night cruise. Get your expectations right from the start: Ha Long cruises are "not" your standard luxury all-inclusive cruise. What I gathered from research is this ...

Ha Long Bay and a couple of other bays neighbouring it have similar karst rock formations. That's what you're here to see. Since Ha Long Bay itself has become overpopulated, cruise companies seeking to be different are starting to offer cruises to the neighbouring bays as well. I am not sure about this, but I feel there may be a premium involved when cruise providers select between bays. Maybe certain cruise companies pay for boats under their own companies to be at a certain bay. Most (if not all) cruise companies promote a cave vist, a kayak/bamboo boat ride, a swim at the beach, hiking, and something called a Vietnamese cooking class which is in fact just guests rolling up pre-prepared springroll ingredients in moistened rice paper. Then there is something called squid fishing.

Water and all beverages are not included save for 1 bottle per person per room. If you don't order anything, you are basically risking getting severely dehydrated. I tried to get the best deal all in. This boat itself, being rather new, was very pleasant to us, unlike many reviews of other boats I'd read about. Louis from Ancora/Dynasty was very kind, helpful and polite. He arranged for an excellent room for us for my husband's birthday. Very grateful for that. The staff were all very kind. They presented my husband with a birthday cake while the sit-down dinner was going on. My husband was very pleased with the whole Ha Long cruise experience and hadn't a clue about all the research I'd put into this to ensure we got the best fool-proof-no-nasty-surprises cruise possible. As far as I am concerned, we were blessed with the right cruise for us. Very thankful for that.

Being a small group, food was reasonably varied for the first lunch and the brunch the next day. But there wasn't that much that you could pile up your plate with what you wanted. You had to be thoughtful that everyone got a piece of the good stuff at least. So I wish that could be improved for the price paid. There was a couple from India on their honeymoon and they were vegetarian. It appeared that that the crew is not accustomed to catering for the vegetarian Indian palate. A simple fried rice with vegetable and fried tofu sides would have pleased them. And perhaps fruit for dessert. We felt sad for them that they were not satisfied with the food.

For the sit down dinner, I felt that the portion size could have been improved, or that more sides could have been added. I basically ate everything on my plate, since we were on a boat, and the next meal was over 12 hours away. A simple buttery mashed potato side would have paired better with steak and been more filling than a few pieces of stir-fried mustard greens. We decided to skip all the side tours and stay on the boat we were paying so much for the whole time. It was a beautiful experience being all alone on the rooftop for a few hours, though we were surrounded by many, many boats. Though our fellow cruisers came back and related how beautiful the cave was, we felt that that visit could be done as a day trip on a future visit.

Some small things that the cruise could do to improve include hiking up the price by maybe USD10 and offering more of the good stuff for our meals. Hike up by another USD10 or 20 and "really" be all-inclusive and include the basic drinks like tea, coffee and juices, and maybe even throw in a basic afternoon tea? Now that would make for a more all-inclusive cruise.

As we didn't do the excursions, we don't know what the others' overall experience was. Our boat basically anchored at one spot between 30 to 40km from where we started. We were not told what to look at or look out for among the rock formations. We couldn't pay attention to what we were passing by as it happened during lunch and the room check-in. Once anchored, that was that except for the boat spinning on that spot that we were in. All side tours were done from that spot and on the next day we went back at a time when we were busy packing. Again, not able to really enjoy the view. All in all, we felt it was something everyone must do at least once in their lifetime. If only the activities were more varied between boats; tourists will return again and again. As for us: Will definitely be back with our parents!

It was an excellent experience even with our wheelchair bound son in all respects (food, room, service etc) until invoice was presented at the check out time on 16th January. We were charged for visiting Titop for all five where it was supposed to be included in the price paid by our travel agency. Moreover only 4 of us had visited. That was not all. They charged us for juice and water served which we were told to be covered within the price paid. What hurt me most was not the amount charged but feel of being cheated. We were never told about those being chargeable. Having reviewed Dynasty Cruise as excellent, aforesaid experience left a bitter test and feel of being cheated. I would be unfair unless I acknowledge service and help provided by them in handling our wheelchair bound son..

We booked a 2-day 1-night tour from Hanoi to Halong Bay at the very last minute (it was booked in the evening of the day before the trip). Most people going on such tours would travel to Halong Bay on a bus, but we were allocated a 7-seater just for our family, including the return trip too, which was a nice surprise.

Regarding the experience on the cruise, it was mostly positive. All of the staff members were very friendly. The food was pretty good, as were the room. Although the timetable itself could use some improvements as we were put under a pretty tight schedule, but it wasn't really the cruise's fault. A 3 day trip would probably work better.

On my way back to Hanoi I also discovered that I lost my wallet in the car. It was quickly returned the next day after I notified a staff member. Considering that this car was shared by other drivers and maybe other tourists, the staff's honestly was to be commended and it saved me a huge amount of hassle!.

Wow what an amazing experience. The staff were friendly and professional. The food was delicious, well presented and the facilities were all clean. I was impressed with the room, spa bath & balcony. It had such a royal feel to it. The day excursions were also great, most with only 30-45 minutes each as there is alot to do. Thank you for a wonderful experience.

We made our reservation via booking.com fo 2 day halong bay cruise. We recieved a lot of additional info from Dynasty Cruise just a few days later. They were very prompt in providing all requested info and even in Vietnam they were available for contact via viber. The transfer from Hanoi could be better organised. At 7.30 they start picking up the guest in Old Quater and that takes 1 hour. It should be better if everybody would come to one pick up place. Than the van ride takes another 3 hours. All together 4 hours which is tooo long. At the end of journey they make a stop at the pearl factory which is boring. We arrived after 4 hours in van to the port and were told that we have to wait for another 45 min to get on board. This was not ok so I made a complaint and cruise manager arranged that we got our cabin in next 10 min. I don't understand why they organise transfer which takes 4 hours and than another 45min waiting in the port. Time management needs improvement.
The cabin was very nice, spacious (2 bedrooms) and with a wonderfull view to the sea. It was sad to see that they don't maintain the white furniture which is already grey and cleanliness needa more attention in every corner of the cabin and ship. The restaurant is stunning with beautiful interier and also food was awsome. Lunch is served as buffet, dinner as set menu and breakfast again as buffet. Food is great, only staff at service needs more organisation. They are disoriented, forget to bring something, food was brought cold to table....but they are all trying to be friendly as much as they can. At 10.45 we had to go off the ship so it was less than 24 hours spent on the shipp (2 day halong bay cruise).
I wish that we could atay at least 4 hours more to enjoy the jacuzzi in bathroom and sunny terrace at the 5th floor. The cruise is not cheep but anyway a nice experience which we would do again.
