Ha Long Bay, in the Gulf of Tonkin, includes some 1,600 islands and islets, forming a spectacular seascape of limestone pillars. Because of their precipitous nature, most of the islands are uninhabited and unaffected by a human presence. The site's outstanding scenic beauty is complemented by its great biological interest. The outstanding value of the property is centered around the drowned limestone karst landforms, displaying spectacular pillars with a variety of coastal erosional features such as arches and caves which form a majestic natural scenery. The repeated regression and transgression of the sea on the limestone karst over geological time has produced a mature landscape of clusters of conical peaks and isolated towers which were modified by sea invasion, adding an extra elemant to the process of lateral undercutting of the limstone towers and islands.

A beautiful bay of rocks and caves. A large tourist attraction using boats to travel around the rocks and visit a cave or two, most of them are not accessible to the public. There is a small man-made beach on one of the rock islands.

I came to Halong Bay on the middle of February, the weather was reasonable to visit the caves. I had the trip on boat - Sun Legend Cruise. On that boat, I was enjoyed the sea food, had sunbathing activity on the sundeck, take part Cooking class and Taichi on the morning. I feel relax and happy. Although, there were... More

I knew that there are a lot of tourists and cruises in the ha long bay but I did not expect that much! There are probably at least 25 different cruises businesses who offer overnight tours and day tours. There is no business who offers an individual tour for a reasonable price. Somehow the Halong Bay is a must do... More

A bucket list place that needs to be visited. Go when the weather is nice! We drove our bikes over to cat ba island and it was a great budget way to experience the bay!

We cruised Halong Bay on Paradise Luxury 1, and the natural splendor is not to be missed. The rock formations are spectacular, and to drift along on deep green waters and to see existing houseboats and temples will go on in our memories for a long time. Halong Bay is described as one of seven wonders of the natural world... More

The sheer number of boats and other tourists while annoying did not impact at all on the experience of this beautifully stunning place.

So, to put my positive review in context, I thought Inle Lake in Myanmar was very disappointing and a tourist trap of sorts, and even Angkor Wat felt like a kind of rip off. (I did enjoy some of the other temples in the Angkor complex). In short, I'm not one prone to superlatives when it comes to world heritage... More

Loved Halong Bay. Make sure you visit the Sung Sot caves as they are spectacular. We wished we had stayed longer than 1 night in our cruise. Paradise Elegance.
