Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

visiting the cave was prearranged & booked by our tour manager.our guide took us there in small boat from cruise ship.visit is not suitable for people with disability, asthma etc.guide warns you of steep steps.there are warning notices outside the cave. the entrance to cave is narrow and as oneway entrance&exit is always crowded.have to mind your head as some part of cave is very law&narrow.no men made steps so have to be very careful once entering the cave.1 hour is enough, there is a small beach nearby as option but there too steps are very steep/difficult.we went up the steps from cave to get a amazing view of halong bay.worth a visit if fit.

Visited this cave when we did the cruise as one of the activities. Definitely not for the elderly. Lots of uneven ground to walk on. Narrow and low entrance so difficult to get in for the unfit. Once you’re in the cave it’s really stunning. View from the top is beautiful. But to get to the top you have to walk in a line and on a very rocky surface so make sure you have good footwear for the trip.

Dear DB1076
Thank you for your review, I am sorry if you see it difficult for the old people. There are a lot of slippery steps to walk on. However, if you can walk up to the top, it is so fascinating. Thanks again for commenting and hope you are well.
Many thanks,

The Me Cung Cave and Grotto are wonderful, natural sites in Ha Long Bay. This is not nearly as crowded with tourists as some other sites. There’s a decent stair climb to get up to the cave entrance. It may look small from my pictures, but it’s really not. No worries with claustrophobia. Enjoy this natural wonder.

Dear JNFII
Thank you very much for spending time on our cave. As you know, this cave is quite small, just someone who is interested in can visit. Do not worry with claustrophobia. I hope you enjoy this cave with beautiful rock formations.
Many thanks,

Viet Excursions provided a guide as well as a ride on a "junk." The boat took us to the cave. It was a challenging walk up more than 100 stairs but there were plenty of landings and beautiful scenery. The guide gave us a great overview with plenty of anecdotes along the way. the cave is massive and really quite thrilling. Also cooler than the heat of outdoors. then we got back on the boat and toured around the other side of the island. Very worthwhile.

Mother Daughter trip. Enjoyed opportunity to see rock formations and island from inside and out. We also climbed high enough to see lake in middle of island.

As part of our tour to Halong Bay, we went to Me Cung Cave. According to the tour guide, this cave is less crowded. It is also the smallest cave.
The entrance to the cave is very narrow. We went in single file and at times have to crouch real low. We exited the grotto and have to climb up some rocky steps to the peak to see the lake. Be mindful that the elderly and the very young children may face challenges climbing up the rocky stairs, but the view is worth the effort.
However, we much prefer the Sung Sot Cave which is much bigger and more magnificent and the view is stunning from the peak.

We stopped at the Me Cung Caves as part of an Indochina Sails tour of Halong. The caves were pretty but relatively small, not a problem as there were only 5 people in our group. The tour here took up through the caves and outside again where the views were stunning, a nice view from high up on both sides of the island, worth the trip for this alone.
Part of the attraction here was the fact it felt off the tourist trail with only our tour on the island. If it were busier it wouldn't feel as special.
The outdoor area after the caves could be tricky for someone who is unstable on their feet.

It seems no matter where I am, ever tour includes a visit to a cave, as did my tour which was part of an overnight Galaxy cruise of Halong Bay. The inside of this cave is nothing special, but the views from outside are. I suppose you can skip going inside, and take one of the nearby trails for some great views, which now that I have been there, I would do the next time I visit.
