Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

People in the town as well as in and around the temples were so excited to have a chat. Even though the language barrier is very real it was a very nice experience to have some beers and a few laughs with them.
They told me if you go into the cave (Cac Co) when single you'll find a girlfriend. So far the myth doesn't stand up, unfortunately.
I was also very lucky to walk into a festival that was on the same day as I was visiting.

This historic temple is outside of the pretty beside a beautiful lake. It dates from the 12th century, so is one of the oldest Buddhist temples in the area. It is dedicated to a master who retreated here, and then is said to have reincarnated into the son of the king (who built the one-pillar pagoda to honor his birth). Wonderful statues. Beautiful karst mountains around it.

located on a little lake, this lod temple is a place of tranquility - if you manage to spend some time there when there are no tourist groups around. you can easily walk around the little lake, and the fitter ones can also climb up the rocks to the High Temple.

An optional tour during our Gate 1 tour of Vietnam, this experience was better than the other visits to temples or pagodas. The main reason was that you could go inside the temple altar areas and see the iconography and sculpture up close. Most other places we went you had to look through window slats to see anything. These particular temples were very ornate and this site is one of the very few that didn't sustain significant damage during the Vietnam war. Should only take about an hour to walk through all the buildings and appreciate the art work. Recommended.

Thay and Tay Phuong Pagoda, built into dramatic limestone on the hill slope one hour from Hanoi is located in such a lovely picturesque setting, you can almost visualize an epic historical drama movie being shot here.
We were not bowled over by the statues of 18 arhats but the romantic bridge, the promenade and the lake pavilion where we were told was the location of water puppet performances during Budhist festivities, they were stunning.
If you are enroute to Duong Lam ancient village, we will definitely recommend a stopover here before returning to Hanoi.

I always want to visit Thầy pagoda, I admire it's history and love it's landscape.
It's so wonderful landscape here, Vietnamese Traditional Architecture of a pagoda.
But the services are so bad, when I came a woman appear and guided us in the pagoda. She said I don't need to pay any for the tour,
After that, when we finish in about 15' later she ask me money, I give her 50.000vnd but she didn't agree and ask for 100000.
I love this place but don't recommend for foreigners people

The Thầy pagoda is about twenty km away. west of Hanoi, going towards Mai Chau. It is the oldest Buddhist pagoda in Vietnam, it is about a thousand years old. It was created by dedicating it to Tu Dao Hanh, creator of water puppets. In the center of the Dragon Pond is the building that is still used at festivals for water puppet shows. On the edge of the lake is the actual pagoda, made of wood. Spectacular.
