We enjoyed our visit to the Old Quarter it was great seeing all the local food, the old buildings and the way of life there. Its very different to Saigon as the people are friendlier and are not always trying to sell you things.

We stayed, as most tourists do, in the old quarter. It's easy to get around to all the sights from here as well as where you can find great food and atmosphere. The lake is lovely to walk around and plenty of things to see and do. Hanoi is very different to southern regions of Vietnam but it was great... More

My husband and I stayed four nights in the old quater from December to January. The area was decorated for the holidays special celebratory events were taking place. We walked around and stopped by at several stores just to enjoy the experience. We used the free Old Quarter walking map and tried different streets, or walked to the French quarter... More

I was 1st there 21 yrs ago, its good to see that most of it is still intact. New shops are springing up but the crafts in certain Streets are still as they have always been, for example the Street that makes all stainless steel things the Chinese Herbs Street I find this fascinating and happy just to walk around... Sure a little crazy with lots of motorbikes & people but it's fun, vibrant, rich with local culture & charm. Easy & safe to walk through all the various neighborhoods day & night. Take a motorbike taxi at least once to get a different perspective & to feel how the residents maneuver the traffic. Enjoy all the food & restaurant... More

Its an interesting walk. We went on a rainy day so it was muddy. Be careful of the many scooters and moto bikes whizzing past you. Be watchful of your belongings. The streets are crowded and anything can happen. Many shopping places along the narrow streets. Bargain with a smile. If you hit it right you can get almost 40-50%... More

The old quarter gives you the feel of complete Vietnam. You can walk along the streets for hours and yet not be bored. The shops ranges from lanterns, souvenirs to garments and jewelleries. The spas are fantastic there and you can get the taste of all varieties of Vietnamese cuisine. Its better to bargain.
