We loved everything about this experience. Dat is an incredibly kind, patient and knowledgeable chef. The stories he tells about Vietnam and knowledge about its food, culture and history, are ones you can’t learn from just websites. He has so many tidbits and wonderful anecdotes to share.
We joined a group class and once we were all in the car transfer (included in class price), Dat asked us what we would like to cook. We all agreed on 3 dishes and we went to a market to pick up the items needed. The market was absolutely fascinating, with endless stalls selling fresh produce. Dat pointed out a number of meats, herbs, vegetables and fruit to us. He was even so kind to buy all of us a huge bag worth of various fruits (mangosteen, longan, rambutan), which we got to enjoy at our hotel later that day.
We stopped by a coconut store where we learned about different types of coconuts and got to drink one. We also were able to go into 2 local homes, which was a great insight to see how the locals live. We had a go at making noodles in the noodle factory, and stopped by for an iced calamansi drink which was much needed in the hot Nha Trang heat.
Dat’s cooking school is absolutely beautiful. There is a fish pond, a huge cooking area, clean bathrooms and pleasant surroundings. Dat was so patient with explaining all of the steps.
The food tasted delicious and we were so full after. Thank you Dat for one of our most enjoyable experiences in Nha Trang! This activity is so much more than just a cooking class. You get to experience how the locals do - go to the local market, inside homes, understand their routines and lives. Definitely book this if you’re in Nha Trang!
