Super Pretty in the Winter

Visiting the Caucuses is a great thing to do to get out of grey Yervan in the winter. The views are stunning and the snow bright and beautiful!

The climate of the Caucasus varies according to elevation and latitude location. For example, average temperature decreases as elevation rises. The same thing with precipitation, which increases with elevation. There is also more precipitation, including snowfall, on the western slopes of the mountains from the influence of the Black Sea.

The mountain roads are primitive and a wee bit dangerous, but the views and the types of formations are unlike any I have ever seen. On a clear day, Mt. Ararat is spectacular. It is worth the treacherous drives.

Having lived here some twenty years I take our mountains for granted. The highest is Aragats which is quite easy to climb at least to the south peak if you are fit. However a guide is good because of the loose scree and changeable weather. Mount Ara is also a worth while scramble whilst there are hundreds of lower hills... More

The caucasian mountains are quite different. Not very high they however provide a ambiance of solitude and distance very unusual.

The Caucasian Mountains and region stretch between the Black Sea (west) and the Caspian Sea (east) and are occupied by Russia, Georgia, Azerbaijan, and Armenia. I was fortunate enough to drive from Baku in Azerbaijan through Georgia and onto Yerevan and southern Armenia and the scenery throughout was spectacular. According to our Georgian guide, the mountains are excellent for hiking... More

The gorgeous mountains are everywhere, almost as soon as you leave the city. They are beautiful and will provide the perfect background to your day trip.
