Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Crazy place, after 4 PM they flock to this place and just walk around. Kids on scooters almost run you over, and if you stop to talk to someone they walk right through your conversation. No one is polite, or moves out of the way. I don't know why they go there no one can afford to shop in these stores anyway.

Impossible to miss, Northern Avenue is main shopping and leisure street of Yerevan. It should be your starting point in exploring the city, place where you can exchange money, buy a SIM card, drink coffee and grab lunch, all in one place. It's very clean, modern looking and safe.

This review is quite late. The Northern Avenue is located near the Opera House. It has undergone serious renovation which enhanced the beauty of this part of the city. purchased my sim card from one of the shops here, and enjoyed my favorite coffee and cinnamon rolls at Cinnabons. There are scores of dining and shopping options in this area.

This area truly stands out in Yerevan, primarily because it is for pedestrians only. In a city where drivers believe they are immortal and drive with lunatic-like behavior while plowing down pedestrians and running over bikers, a car-free zone is a real treat. Yet, Northern Ave seriously suffers from being over-built and astronomically priced beyond the conceivable affordability of 99% of Armenians. Indeed the shops, retailers, and restaurants on Northern Ave are catered towards the upper 1%, the oligarch's spoiled daughters, and the few expats in Yerevan. Many of the storefronts and most of the apartments remain vacant. Everything that once stood here that might remind Armenians of their epic and lengthy history has been bulldozed to the ground and replaced with unremarkable concrete squares that prove that Armenian architecture has not progressed far from the Soviet-era. On the whole stretch there may be 2 or 3 trees, no more. Some greenery would go a long way to make Northern Ave feel more livable.

In 1924, when Russian-born Armenian architect Alexander Tamanyan conceived the first plan for the renovation of Yerevan, "Northern Avenue" was already foreseen. Nevertheless, it was never implemented until 2007 and later, in 2014, it was completely renovated. The beautiful pedestrian avenue, connecting "The Opera" and "Freedom Square" to "Abovyan Street" and "Republic Square", hosts the high-end Yerevan - luxurious residential buildings, office towers, hotels, cafés, restaurants, nichtclubs and top branded shops. Underground, a huge parking area and a shopping mall (the "Tashir Street Shopping Gallery"). "Northern Avenue" will certainly be - many times - on your way at any visit to Yerevan! And remember, the "Cascade Complex" is just behind "The Opera". Enjoy!

Don't forgot to check out "Tashir Street", it is an underground shopping center in the very heart of Yerevan under the Northern Avenue.

Northern Avenue is full of great shops, and restaurants. You can find a little bit of everything here. There is also an occasional mini Vernissage, or farmers market type of event. You can also find places to stay on Northern Avenue, like an apartments or hotel. There are also no cars on Northern Ave. it is only for pedestrians and bikers, which is nice if you have a big group. I recommend taking a stroll down Northern Avenue while you are in Armenia, and maybe even stopping at some stores.
