The statue of Sabir shows a steadfast serious thinker. In fact, Sabir was a satirist who wrote his analysis of society towards the end of the 19th century. His readers loved and respected him for his wit. He is one of the most popular authors of Azerbaijan.
I liked the monument, but even more so the parklike square around it. It is near the city walls and gives the visitor a chance to relax while everyday life is going on around Sabir

This is yet another simple monument to an Azerbaijani poet, located outside the old city walls.
While the statue itself is anything but impressive, it it still easy on the eye and located in a lovely park-like area.

This monument was built to pay tribute to the founder of Azerbaijani Satire. Alakbar Tahirzadeh, who's pen name was Sabir, was a nineteenth century writer, poet, teacher and public personality. This bronze and marble monument was crafted in 1958 by Garyagdy and erected in the Nizami Park. They say that initially this statue was made of a standing man but later it was crafted in a sitting position. People made fun of the sitting position and the sculptor announced that Sabir had gotten tired so he sat down. Sabir used satire to promote women's rights and education. We were all very impressed by this unusual statue when our tour guide told us about it.

Another interesting sculptor and monument of the many in Baku. This is of the famous Azerbaijani poet Mirza Sabir. The original sculptor was constructed with Mirza Sabir sitting, which was then moved from its original spot to the new spot not far from Icher Saher Metro. The new Monument is now of Sabir sitting which was completed and erected in the new spot over half a century ago...Interesting

In general, there are many monuments to poets in Baku - this one is from the same series - a monument to a satirist poet. Located in a picturesque park.
