An interesting glimpse into Azeri traditions
The unusual building is situated in front of the Caspian Sea, within walking distance of the Old City. I was impressed by the range of rugs and carpets and examples of their usage in traditional Azeri life. Information is provided in English as well as Azeri, making it very accessible to English speakers. Exhibits are spread over 3 floors, reached by escalator. I do not know if there is a lift making the exhibits wheel chair accessible.

    Go, you’ll be surprised
Actually surpassed expectations, interesting styles of carpets including a live display of carpet weaving. The main attraction is of course the building itself, which is in the style of a rolled up carpet. Expect to spend 30-45 mins.

Unusual building and very interesting inside
The Azerbaijan carpet museum is a really gorgeous and unusual building. I have never seen any other building shaped like an actual rolled carpet like this one. It doesn't only house the carpet Museum but there's also a restaurant inside of this building. The carpets are very unusual and very historical. The day I visited the Upper Floor was closed but on the lower floor there were lovely displays of carpets of all size and range and designs, and also a live display of the history of carpet. This building is located just before the Baku Boulevard and it's definitely I must visit even if just to see the architecture.

Historical place, must visit for carpet enthusiasts
The Azerbaijan National Carpet Museum in Baku is a fascinating place for carpet enthusiasts and those interested in Azerbaijani culture. The museum was established in 1967 and has undergone several name changes over the years. It was the world's first specialized museum of carpets. The museum is designed beautifully to resemble a carpet roll and can be easily identified even from the highland park or any top point. It consists of 3 floors, 1st Floor: Explores the development of Azerbaijani carpets and their role in traditions. 2nd Floor: Showcases Azerbaijani carpet-weaving schools. 3rd Floor: Highlights contemporary carpet weaving. The museum houses an extensive collection of Azerbaijani carpets and rugs, featuring various weaving techniques and materials. Some of the designs are truly remarkable, considering they were hand-knotted. You need to Plan for about 2-3 hours to explore the museum thoroughly. If you're in Baku, I strongly recommend visiting this unique museum!

    A positive surprise
This came as a nice surprise. I wouldn't go in unless it was included in the tour I took, but I'm glad I went inside. It's a well designed museum with some live demonstrations about how the carpets are made. Quite interesting and a fascination design both on the inside and outside of the museum. You should at least come to see the building!

Although a carpet museum normally won't be an obvious item on our vacation to-do list, we were happy we went. The museum has a large collection of beautiful carpets. That being said, the museum isn't overwhelming and it is easy to walk around and quickly understand what you are looking at. We loved we could get a private guide on the spot for a reasonable price and loved even more that we could watch one or two women actually making carpets in the museum itself. Brilliant idea for the museum to do that because you can't really appreciate what goes into making the carpets unless you see how it is done.

The museum has a wide array of traditionally designed carpets, with the moths that the weavers used in each case. Also exhibitions feature furniture and household items woven with the traditional techniques.on the top floor, there are more modern carpets that artists designed in the 20th century. The artists' original sketches and designs are also on display. A carpet weaver demonstrated these techniques, fascinating and complex.

Just from the outside, the building is beautiful and very impressive! A project by Austrian architect Franz Janz, its structure intends to look like a massive rolled carpet! Inside. the largest collection of Azerbaijan's carpets and rugs in the world! The actual building was inaugurated in 2014 and houses not only carpets and rugs, but interesting collections of ceramics, jewelry, fabrics, costumes, embroideries, glass, metal, wood and paper works. And remember, Unesco has proclaimed, in 2010, Azerbaijan's carpet weaving art as a "Masterpiece of Intangible Heritage"! Finally, don't miss its gift shop on the ground floor, where you can even buy beautiful authentic Azerbaijan's carpets! Enjoy!

It was great to see the tradition of making carpets and the building was beautiful.

Poor engagement of staff to interact or engage the tourists in their tradition and passion

DAYLIGHT ROBBERY in the cafe inside the carpet museum. 2 ice creams cost 18 manat and outside they were selling it for 1-3 manats only!!!!!

Hence average review due to our mediocre experience inside

Azerbaijan is very proud of their Carpet Industry and their contributions. This museum is so beautiful, and right in the middle of the city, and give you a good experience of Carpet Industry, its history and their contributions. Amazing Architecture too.

During my visit in December, 2022- there was temporary “Two Julius” - an exhibition dedicated to Julius Straume and Julius Madernieks who born in Gulbene municipality in Latvia. There were example of scarves🧣 , towels and gloves 🧤
Azerbaijan Carpet museum was renovated in 2008 and there are approximately 10000 examples. You can learn a lot about carpet types as “palaz”, “Kilim”, “Sedda”, „Sumakh”, „Zili” and get familiar to Azerbaijani folklore and national holiday “Novruz”, to learn producing process of Azerbaijani “kəlağayı” ( women’s headdress)
In the 2nd floor there are a huge collection of carpets from several regions as Guba, Shamakhi, Sheki, Nakhchivan, Tabriz, Ganja
You can also see a real example of making carpet by an Azerbaijani woman.

Entrance ticket is 7 azn (4 €), guided tours are 12 azn (7 €)
Monday - museum is closed

Visit if you have a real interest in carpets but if you don’t, I wouldn’t recommend visiting if you’re short on time. We saw the carpets in the Heydar Aliyev centre and really enjoyed seeing them, so thought we’d visit this museum. In the carpet museum, there was a good English of how carpets are made, a description of each carpet and there was a lady weaving a carpet by hand. Only 2 levels out of 3 were open when we visited so not sure what was on the other floor and if that was worth visiting. The design of the building is interesting. Costs 10 Manat per adult to visit.

The museum has unique appearance as you can see from outside. inside the museum has variety of carpets from different regions of Azerbaijan, and I personally like Karabakh design the most. There were videos about how to create carpets which made me easier to understand how they are made. The most impressive one was that some people (probably professionals) were creating carpets in the museum, and we were able to see and photograph how they were actually working on the carpets.

However, I can only give 3/5 out of 5/5 because of staff at the museum. There were too many staff in the exhibition area, and they were way tooo loud. About ten people were gathering altogether in one place and chatting, laughing and I even saw one of them running in the exhibition area. Can you imagine staff in the museum chatting and laughing so loud? They were literally destroying the atmosphere. Extremely disappointing. I urgently ask the museum to educate these young ladies working at the museum to be quiet and stop destroying the atmosphere of the museum unless they intend to make the museum a loud place. If they were quiet and not chatting, I would be happy to visit there again.

The carpet museum in Baku is unmistakable as it is located in a wonderfully designed building, shaped like a rolled up carpet.
The museum is located near to the Baku Boulevard.
The entrance fee is 10 manat.
Once inside the museum the ground floor is very spacious and light and airy. This floor houses a cafe and also an extensive gift shop. There are also free lockers provided for your bags.
There are then a couple more floors, accessed by escalators, which house the most amazing carpets, real works of art. They are all beautifully displayed, with information of them clearly provided. Some of the exhibits are also interactive.
The designs and colours of the carpets are wonderful and many have considerable age to them.
I enjoyed meandering around the museum looking at all the exhibits. In fairness it was very quiet when I visited and I pretty much had the place to myself, which felt like a real treat. I’m not sure I would have formed such a positive impression had it been really busy when I visited.
I still think it is very educational place and well worth a visit.

One of Baku's most well known architectural landmarks, the Carpet Museum is a must see.... from outside.... but as I was there, & had the time, I figured I'd venture inside. I found it pretty dull, & would say that unless carpets are your thing, you're not missing a fat lot if you decide not to pay the 7 AZN to view the exhibition.
There is plenty to see around & about the museum - Mini Venice, Deniz Mall, Baku Eye & the International Mugham Centre are all within close walking proximity.
