- Dirk WAlexandra Headland, Australia10,139 contributionsGood for a solid day !Baku has a deep Persian/Russian history and got rich as a center of trading and oil. It is a wonderful thing that the Old Town, with Palace of Shirvanshaws and Maiden Tower got designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2000. The current government is doing a good job maintaining and presenting it, so it is an absolute must to spend some hours exploring.Visited September 2023Travelled soloWritten 26 October 2023
- Owais7 contributionsMust visit while in BakuGreta vibes, lot of history and you will find restaurants serving local cuisine. Best way to visit in by foot and exploring the alleys of the old city. The Shirvanshah Palace and Maiden's Tower are both within the old city.Visited October 2023Travelled with familyWritten 28 October 2023

- irumsohaleBirmingham, United Kingdom34 contributionsExploring the Charms and Challenges of Baku's Old CityBaku's Old City is undeniably rich in history and architectural beauty, offering visitors a glimpse into Azerbaijan's past. Strolling through its narrow streets, one can't help but be captivated by the ancient buildings, mosques, and palaces that have stood the test of time. However, while the Old City holds much promise, it also has its drawbacks. The area can feel overcrowded, especially during peak tourist seasons, making it difficult to fully appreciate its tranquility and charm. Additionally, some parts of the Old City are in need of restoration, with crumbling facades and neglected alleyways detracting from the overall experience. Despite these challenges, exploring Baku's Old City is still a worthwhile endeavor for history enthusiasts and culture seekers. It offers a unique opportunity to immerse oneself in Azerbaijan's rich heritage and witness the juxtaposition of old and new in this vibrant capital city.Visited April 2023Travelled with familyWritten 14 March 2024
- Cloud1,305 contributionsDo not miss the Palace of the ShirvanshahsVery beautiful city, modern as in Nizami Street yet antique with its Old City. In my mind a beautiful caravanserai currently re-arranged as a restaurant, but expecially the Palace of the Shirvanshahs. Very well kept, too.Visited April 2024Travelled soloWritten 12 May 2024

- Hospitality Guru 👣🕵️♂️Dubai, United Arab Emirates46 contributionsOld City - Baku and Dinner- The Old City Tour was a great one to go to with a Baku resident who knew all the key areas and points of Old Baku, The walk and tour which lasted approx. 3 hours was enlightening to know that the Caspian city was well up to the Old City Point and has now receded a few kilometers . The Marian Tower tale was straight out of the fairy tale books, we picked up some cool souvenir and overall had a great time on this excursion - We headed for an authentic Azeri Dinner across town and had the most memorable dinner of the trip with the Grills , Kebabs, Koftas and variety of salads complimented with a glass of Azeri Vodka and WineVisited June 2024Travelled with familyWritten 26 June 2024
- arzanstudioMumbai, India350 contributionsWonderful area to walk through and get an idea of the history of Baku.Located right in the heart of the city this beautiful conglomeration of old buildings and small cobble Street lanes add a charming interlude to the other otherwise modern city of Baku. With small quaint shops, restaurants, and coffee shops this place offers visual treat at every corner. It is up to you to discover, beautiful details within the streets. There are buggies available at the cost to drive you around the old city. This is good for people who want to experience the full atmosphere without walking through. There is a palace an interesting museum and miniature books within. I happen to go to some good carpet shops as well a definite must do one morning in Baku.Visited June 2024Travelled with familyWritten 6 July 2024
- GRETALEWISMumbai, India409 contributionsA great city to visit with families/ friends/ soloA great combination of old and new in the city of Baku! While you have monuments within the city you also have the cafe’s restaurants etc getting your attention. A lovely city with lovely people. Tourism has just hit this city so some are still getting used to the onslaught of tourists. Food is awesome especially if you are meat/ fish eaters. Nizami Street their main shopping and tourist hub is a lovely walking only area with lots of designer labels both international n local. People don’t speak English but Translator on the mobile helps them understand. Reasonably priced for food and stay n travel. Lots of sightseeing places if you’re into that and lots of food places to try out. Great place to bisitVisited July 2024Travelled with familyWritten 10 July 2024

Old City or Inner City is the historical core of Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan. The Old City is the most ancient part of Baku, which is surrounded by walls which were easily defended. In 2007, the Old City had a population of about 3000 people. In December 2000, the Old City of Baku, including the Palace of the Shirvanshahs and Maiden Tower, became the first location in Azerbaijan to be classified as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.

The old city is a great combination of ottoman and tuscany architecture narrow streets that people can walk kind and friendly and enjoy the sights. the old city itself is a great attraction but views of modern architecture of baku like flame building makes this place much much beautiful the tip about this place is that what ever they sell as original hats are 100% fake don't buy any thing just take a walk and some great shoots then leave this area you can find many famous brands like armani fendi Gucci and... Near the old city if you want to chill out just find a cafe out of the old city and enjoy your time

Old city- or Icharishahar as it is called locally it the must see part of the city. It reminds ancient roman cities with narrow streets. Long time ago it was easy to get lost. But right now I find it difficult to get lost easily. It is full of restaurants that suggest Azerbaijani food. I would suggest to check out the tour by Fuad Akhundov- he is kind of local celebrity in guided tours. If he is in town, check his old city tour (available in English and Russian). Stoned streets, Maiden tower and Shirvashah palace are the main attractions to see. There is a Marionette theatre in the Old city, check their program when traveling.
In 2020 Icharishahar is celebrating it’s 20th anniversary in UNESCO list. So check the Old city municipality for interesting events. It is full of bazaars during New Year and Nowruz (March 20-21).

The Old City in Baku is a vibrant area where you can find so many different attractions, restaurants, pubs, hotels, souvenir shops, a local wine shop, tea rooms, and theaters. You can spend a few hours easily wandering through all the little lanes. You can't really get lost though it might seem so! Be sure to bargain if you are buying anything!

Baku old city or the area of Icherisheher is an absolute gem to explore. The area includes the old city walls, Maiden Tower and the Shirvanshahs Palace, as well as an abundance of restaurants, gift shops and cafes. The area is beautifully kept with all the old buildings restored to their former glory.
The area also has a labyrinth of alleyways which are all fun to explore. No matter the time of day, this area, like the rest of Baku is completely safe to wander around in. It is definitely worth spending some time here both through the day and at night.
Once darkness falls all the historical buildings are illuminated making the whole area take on a new and very beautiful appearance.

We did a Walking Tour of the Baku Old City through GuruWalk with Namiq. He did a great job guiding us through the Palace of the Shirvanshahs, teaching us about the old city, showing us Maiden Tower. He took us inside local artist, Ali Shamsi's shop and translated Ali Shamsi's stories about each piece of art which was fantastic and a highlight for us. The stories and the symbolism behind each piece of art only added to the depth and beauty of each piece! I eneded up having to buy a painting to take home the visit made such an impression on me. He gave us restaurant recommendations and must-try local food recommendations. He gave us tips on buying souvenirs. Namiq even offered to extend his day with us to take us to Yanar Dag/burning mountain and the Atashgah Zoroastrian Fire Temple and joined us for dinner helping us order the best local food off the menu, which freed up a day to add even more to our travel adventures!
We ate breakfast one day in the old city. We shopped here for souvenirs, honey, teas, handicrafts made by local artists at Folk Arts. Folk Arts had lots of Christmas Ornaments to choose from as well as a wide array of other unique items not found at any of the other touristy souvenir shops.

Located near Caspian sea, old city is the historical heritage of Baku .It takes you back to the old world charm though many places have been converted to suit modern facilities too. You can take walking tour or use the electric vehicle services provided inside the city. One can buy artifacts and mementos from this place. There are many good restaurants over here , where you can try Azerbaijani or Turkish food. Places like Mcdonald’s, KFC are also near by.

We stayed in Azerbaijan with another couple of our friends. We relied on the local Agency 'Baku Travel Packages' who provided us with English-speaking driver with private van for us 4. The first day we did a city tour with an Italian speaking Guide (Gulma) that we thank very much, very good and helpful, we recommend it to those who want to go to Baku. The capital is innovative and booming, a real surprise! The country very varied and interesting, we were in Gobustan to visit the monastery and its surroundings having lunch at a farm run by a very welcoming family that cooked for 20 people so many dishes (unfortunately we did not make it to eat everything!) another day we spent in Quba in the mountains, passing through desert areas... really a pleasant surprise, a country definitely worth visiting!

Written 4 May 2019

Written 23 June 2018

Y problemas si has estado en Armenia y concreto Nagorno Karabaj.
