Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

After finishing our old city tour, we reached this museum. Being Monday, it was closed and so I had to visit this museum from outside only. There are beautiful sculptures and photographs outside the museum where people can know about the historical figures of Azerbaijan. Its good for taking pictures as well.

An excellent museum located between the old city and fountain square. To enter, knock on the door next to the main entrance if it seems closed. You are asked to wear covers over your shoes to protect the carpets in the museum. Entrance with an english speaking guide is 10 manat. Staff speak fluent english and are well versed in the great history of Azeri and general Caucasus literature. Tour takes approximately an hour and take you through time from early 9th century to present day. Insight into priceless pictures, ornaments, carpets, wall art etc. Well worth a visit if you are into real history, especially poetry and fictional literature.

This is the best museum in Baku. The museum has guides who speak English, and they take you on a tour of Arabic, Turkic, Persian, and Azeri authors from the 9th through 20th centuries. I found myself anxious to read Nizami's work after the visit, and I am now one of his fans. Lovely building in convenient location near Fountain Square.

It was our last day and we had about half an hour to waste and thought we would look at this place and we should have allowed ourselves at least 2 hours. If you want to know about Azerbaijani history and culture and you want an intelligent and articulate guide, then make this place a must see. There is so much to see in artifacts, paintings, literature and architecture in this building. It will really surprise you...

The museum named after Azerbaijan’s most famous and revered poet Nizami Ganjavi displays paintings depicting historical events, scenes of poems, great Azerbaijani poets, also a painting of Nizami Ganjavi even though nobody knows how he really looked alike, carpets, writings, artefacts and the influence of Persian culture on Azeri culture. At the reception mobile phones, coats, bags, etc. have to be deposited, then overshoes of fabric must be worn to protect the floor. The obligatory guided tour is limited to 45 minutes, much too short for such an interesting museum. My English speaking guide, included in the entrance fee, was very knowledgeable, and luckily extended the tour a bit but had to rush me through the 2nd floor. In order to digest the intensive information it is necessary to visit this museum twice. Photographs not allowed (cameras and phones to be left at reception).

It is really part of world heritage.
In terms of content it is the only museum of literature in the world.
You must have a guide to worth it.
You will not want to leave.

I noticed that the museum did not have any russian or english translations or description. It would help to know what it is I am looking at - I speak both languages and was completely lost.

We visited the literature museum one afternoon. The staff seemed a little shell shocked that we went in but the visit was well worth taking your shoes off for the tour.
The young guide was very well versed in the history and while simple the exhibits were beautifully displayed.
The interior of the building is stunning.
Well worth taking the time to visit.
We learnt so much of the countries rich history.

Dear friends,
At home I have since at least 55 years ago an old 33-t LP record, issued by Colosseum Records, USA, with the title Caucasian Folksongs and Dances, vol. 1 Azerbaijan: Arshin Mal Alan, Comic Folk Opera by U. Gadzhibekov, with tenor Rashid Beybutov and the National Azerbaijan Folk Orchestra of Baku.
If possible, I would like to order from you the cd with the music that has been issued in Azerbaijan some time ago.
My wife and I attended the Azerbaijan Mugham Festival in 2011, but did not find (extracts of)the music on cd. We were very friendly recieved at the Nizami Library though. Only recently I found on internet that a cd (or dvd) with extracts of the opera has been issued in Azerbaijan. Is that one still available? Can I order it from you? How to pay for it?
I am much looking forward to your answer, and I thank you in advance for the work involved!
Best regards from, Fred de Ceuninck van Capelle
