- Globetrotter10079Seattle, Washington443 contributionsInteresting marketThe Night Market only sells food. I heard that it opens at 5:30 pm. The market has various local specialties, and many fruits. I saw a man opening a fruit that kind of looks like a coconut inside. It was a Durian. A lady who worked there put on her gloves, and gave me a free sample. It had a weird smell, and look but, the Durian tastes good.Visited September 2023Travelled soloWritten 25 September 2023
- Shirley YHouston, Texas10 contributionsVery clean market with lots of variety!Love the Gadong night market! Lots of choices for local food at very reasonable prices. You see locals and tourists there for meals and fruits. We tried the local red durian and really love it. Grilled fish, meat and sticky rice are all very good! Very clean and friendly stall owners. - JellyBSingapore, Singapore895 contributionsMeet the locals and great place for trying local fruit and foodCome in the evening after 5pm as stall holders are ready to serve the evening gentle crowd. You can purchase local kuehs, fruit (wild durian season is now on), grilled fish, meats, satay, fried sweet and savouries. This will be a fun place for the serious snacker. For the uninitiated, you can try durians that are red and bright orange in colour, local mangos, kembayau (similar to an olive?). We even tried grilled chicken butt (Hahaha and it was delicious). A fun evening out if you are new to Brunei. For some pre dinner snacks or plenty of small bites that is equivalent to dinner. (Up to you!!)Visited July 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 18 July 2024

Generally it is a night market under the proper market building, housing range of foods and fruits. Food price are cheap and have a lot of variety from local dishes to snacks. There also several tables where you can have your meal.

Gadong Night Market and the adjoining mall are major hangouts for people in BSB in the evening and very busy. This is like other night markets in SE Asia, but don't expect it to be quite as big...the whole thing is in one large cement space. Everything is inexpensive...1-2 Brunei Dollars per item. A lot of the focus is on barbecued meat and lots and lots of fried snacks. There are some other options like fresh noodles or westernized food and some fresh fruit/vegetables as well. There are table all around the market, and you can fill up for a meal very cheap here. Be careful what you wear - because of the barbeque the whole place fills with a lot of smoke and everything will end up smelling like this after.
You could also walk next door to the big mall.

If you want to sample local and cheap food this is the place to visit. The market is full of local foods some being cooked on the spot. 3 of us went and ate to our hearts content and only spent B$30, including 2 durians. Just a word of warning . Most food is fried in deep oil, so if you are a health freek this is not for you. There are tables where you can sit and enjoy not only your food but the hustle and bustle of the market. A little smokey as I thought the extractors were overlooked. Take some wet wipes to clean your hands afterwards . You can easily spend 2-3 hrs there .

Good place to start local food hunt as all sorts of cooked meals, fruits, titbits are available here. The only gripe is the size of the market which to be honest isn't really that big and even then only half of the stalls were open when we were there.
We bought rice with curries and prawn fritters from one stall and the taste of the food was average. Nothing memorable.

A great place to grab a bite at night or have a dessert. Located right next to Gadong mall and has parking space if you come by car.
Best to rent a car on your journey when getting around BSB.

I want to visit Gadong Night Market from My Hostel in KFC Kiulap, it just 1,5 KM by walk..
Can I walk there from my Hostel?
Or if I go by bus, can I still get bus at 8 PM?

There are many bus services in Brunei, in fact, there are so many that one trip costs for only $0.50 cents! You can check the schedules in bus stops, they are easily founded in streets, you can check the map via online in Google too.

The Radisson Hotel Brunei offers a free shuttle back and forth to the Gadong Night Market.
PS. I was told that there are only about 50 taxis in the whole country, so getting alternate transportation is important.
