I don't think I've ever seen a museum like this! It was falling apart, dirty, the floor was unsafe in places, the translations to English on signs are dreadful, and the exhibits are mostly pretty awful. It's like the Faulty Towers of museums - so bad it was funny! If you want the history of Laos from the communist point... More

This museum is one of the worst i have visted. Very old and run down. The place looks like it will fall apart. You have pay 10,000 kip per person to enter. They should use that money to refurb the place. Very disappointed.

Went here with a couple of friends after visiting Carol Cassidy's shop. It's a good place to learn about their history but the place needs to be remodeled or undergo maintenance. Not worth the entrance fee. I'd rather just watch the movies prepared in COPE.

I went to Museum and a bit disappointed as there is not much to see except few exhibits look like replicas and some display at first floor containing photographs and newspaper cuttings from revolutionary era. There is admission ticket but no information brochure in English.Staff were however explained apologitically that the English copies are not available. One can skip this place... More

Though it looks abandoned the National History Museum contains many interesting and thought-provoking items for your perusal. From pre-history to modern times, the museum has displays highlighting many facets of Laotian history and culture. While it is not the most modern of buildings, and the displays leave something to be desired in comparison to other museums, the items on display... More

Very interesting and broad-spectrum museum showing the Lao PDR`s history from the very beginning until now. The displays are not modern or all new, but they are very instructive and you learn a lot. It is an over all good experience and very interesting.

While interesting, for a national museum, this one needs a lot of work. I understand the museum is about to move into a new building, perhaps it will improve greatly with that move. As it is, it's not a must see, but somewhere to go on a rainy day to spend one to two hours.

As far as national museums go this ones on the worst I have seen. There are so many ways in which the rich history and its places can be shown but it was not to be. A dreary old building that's not even air conditioned with very poor displays is the national history museum. An opportunity lost.

I found all the ancient history side of the museum very interesting but I also found the whole museum airless and hot, so by the time I got around to the modern exhibition I just browsed through it and didn't pay a lot of attention. Probably because I found it uninteresting.

For history lovers and if you have 60 to 90 minutes to kill. The building itself is dated. No ac and even if there is fan it's still not enough. The shelves are very open so I understand why you have to leave your bag in the locker but you can bring your mobile or camera inside for extra 10,000... More
