Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This art market on a Saturday morning was amazing. We were able to purchase artwork from a number of very talented artists directly. We went there very early in the morning (before 11AM) and it was very quiet. All artists were very nice and prices for each piece was very affordable bar a couple of people trying to rip us off :-)

This is in front of the Nelum pokuna hall and Vihara maha devi park. There are a few stalls with quite a good selection of local paintings. They accept only cash you have to bargain.

Vidharamahadevi Park Art Street.
This place is a must see. Local artist selling there paintings. Beautiful creations depicting various element of Sri Lankan culture ranging from religion, nature to daily life. You will
Love this place and most likely find a unique beautiful piece of artwork to take home with you. The vendors will give the impression that they have a fixed price which is not the case the day we went we were the only tourist around and they were happy to haggle on the price. The canvases are painted in such a way that they can be taken off of the wooden frames and rolled up for easy transport.
There is a cash machine on the same street. There is a lady who is normally the first vendor you will see who sells paintings for her father she took time with us explaining the artwork and was not push in any way. We purchased 4 paintings from her!!☺
Great to see even if you're not buying anything. A treat for the eyes.

Beautiful paintings done by very talented artists.
Worth visiting even if you do not buy anything as the paintings are so very nice.
Some are quite expensive, but worth the price as due credit should be given to these talented artists

Apart from supporting local artists it is also interesting walking along the path seeing the variety of paintings. The day we visited we were the only people there and we were left to enjoy looking at the artwork without being haggled. We found a painting we wanted to purchase and the local vendor was very friendly and helpful. The painting was easily taken off the display frame and rolled for easy transportation on our flight home.

We stopped here on our last day in Sri Lanka. It is a good thing I waited until the last day or I would have been broke for the whole trip. Sri Lanka has some talented artists. The 3 of us each bought a couple of pieces. I was very happy with the prices. Look for the owls painted on the tree.

Is this art market on everyday? Or only over the weekends?
Written 27 January 2019
It is also during the week, but much less artists and pictures.
