I noted the presence of both the new and old parts of Colombo here: For the old parts, there are the Clock Tower, the Memorial, etc. For the new ones, there are the modern commercial buildings such as the Twin Towers Banks and Government Offices.
I enjoyed my visit here. Highly recommended to visit it!

Marina is probably the best casino in the city, with pretty nice infrastructure. The casino offers regular games of Blackjack, Texas Hold'm Poker, Roulette and many others. The exchange rates offered are great. The casino offers free food and drinks at your table and also has a lavish dinner buffet free of charge. It also offers free pick up and drop for the players all over the city.
The staff is slightly in-experienced which can be expected considering the short vintage of the casino.Great place to try your luck.

Colombo Fort is a great urban fabric characterized by covered arcades, connecting shops, banks, old hotels, cafes and offices! This is a late Nineteenth Century and early Twentieth Century urban artifact that’s fun to explore and saunter about in. Colombo is a very clean and friendly city. I’ve been a fort lover since the late 1970’s!

This is perhaps the city center for colombo. If you are coming by train or bus, you will be dropped here (as main stations for both are around). If you are coming to colombo by air and want to use public transport for coming to city, you will be dropped here. If you want to go anywhere from Colombo, best chances are you will have to take bus, train, shuttle for airport from here. So if someone is coming for a day or two, this is the best place to stay as it is close to most mode of transportation and bulk of touristy things are nearby. Saves you time and money in transportation within city.

Don't expect a fort it has been demolished hundreds years ago to make room for the present financial capital of Sri Lanka. you would find British colonial buildings. (Oldest super market Cargills being one) along side modern buildings. main post office some office buildings and most importantly the presidents house are the colonial buildings you would find there. several top end hotels , old dutch hospital now converted into shopping arcade and a food court, gall face green are with in walking distance. towards the other side you can walk to Pettah( which in local language is "pita kotuwa" = outside the fort) , whole sale and flea market in Colombo
it is must for a history buff or a travveller looking for architectural evolution in places

Colombo Fort is the business hub to Sri Lanka. if I start from Main Street of Pettah, you can buy some products cheaply. same products which you see from outlets/shops. it is all about your bargaining ability. but before buying something please have a closer look on the respective stuff. sellers are tricky. specially for foreigners. after you satisfied with what you needed you can go to Fort museum, it is not up-to standard. but it has some valuable things worth looking.
Morning hours you can enjoy your day in Gangarama Temple which is the oldest temple on town. beautiful artworks and calm and quite place will make you fill with inner peace. TukTuk (three wheelers) will guide you to the place. but when you ask for a taxi check, do they have the Meter Board. to Lunch time you can go to majestic City or Exel World area which is fill with some shopping malls and gaming areas. better if you can come to Galle Face green at about 6.00 to see the beautiful Sun set. and after spending some hours in beach, you can go to Marine Club or Cheese pub in Colombo. only if you are a playful team.
some details which may help you,
GalleFace green at Colombo 03. better to visit (BVT) at evening. Exel World BVT before 4.30. or after 7.30pm. gangarama Temple: between 1.30 to 5.30pm. MC: any time if you are a shopping freak or movie lover. Savoy Cinema for best 3D. Mount lavinia: happening Beach in Colombo. Fort area: cheapest place to purchase but risky , Colombo Museum (not For Museum) :at 10am to 1.00pm. Casino,Pubs and All: after 7.30pm. Old Muslim Mosque : after anytime of prayers. etc...
hope all this details will help you all.. if it helpful please add a helpful vote, so others may learn something from this.
Thank you.

“Colombo Ceylon” known by many tourists around the Europe is the commercial and financial centre of Sri Lanka. Today Colombo is a rapidly growing city in Asia. Colombo tourism activities also in a growing stage after finishing 30 years of war in the country.
Colombo tourism is mainly focused on shopping and city tour. And sometimes it is the gate way for other cities into the country side. Many tourists stay a while before, after or midway of their tour. Galle face is the gate way from Colombo to the down south of Sri Lanka. The Galle road which lead from Colombo to Galle, Weligama, Mathara, Thangalle and hambanthota passes many beautiful and dazzling beaches by the road side. So many tourists begin their journey from Colombo to the southern coast of Sri Lanka.
Colombo has number of star class hotels and guest houses around the city. Many of them are located near Galle Face and nearby. For shopping purposes large shopping complexes, Jewellery shops, Food Courts and dress points. In a one day city tour you can cover most of them.
The Colombo Fort, National Museum, Galle Face Green, Slave Island, Kelaniya Raja Maha Vihara, Dehiwala Zoo, The Viharamahadevi Park are some of the most visited attractions by tourists.

After spending a few weeks here, I would have to say that I would never return to this 'gem'... Attractions are ridiculously overpriced, food and accommodation are also too expensive and poorly reflect the price, and the country appears built upon mass consumption of Chinese crap and ripping off tourists. A place for glam- packers, couples looking for an asia-lite experience, and the instagrammers filtering their experiences to make it appear something grand and worthwhile. Some very nice local people has been its only saving grace. Will never return to this country.

Unfortunately many of the colonial buildings tend to be permitted decaying, which is sad. This historical heritage should get restored to show future generations the history of Sri Lanka.
