Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

While driving around the Old Fort area, we came accross the clock. It is located near the Marine Museum and another huge Memorial. We briefly stopped here and take some pictures. Forgot to verify if the time posted by the Clock Tower is accurate.

The clock tower marks the entry point to Pettah, which is the only place that could resemble a place in India! Pettah is busy, crowded, less organised and less clean. However, if you brave it, there are loads of shopping to do, and it is CHEAP!

The clock tower is built on a site of a church which was built in 1602. The clock tower was financed by a family from Bombay, India is the early 20th Century.

The Khan Clock Tower stands at the entrance of the legendary Pettah Market. Dating back to the early 20th century, the clock tower was established by a Paris family bearing the last name Khan

This tower has been very well preserved and stands close to The Kingsbury hotel at the far end of Galle Face Green.

There is nothing particularly amazing about it but if you are in the area, its worth a look. Don't bother making a special journey, but there are a couple of other things to see in the area such as the Dutch Hospital and Twin Towers so you might want to lump the sight seeing altogether.

It's free to look.

Nothing more dramatic or special than that. In most cities it wouldn't be regarded as a "sight", but Colombo has such a dearth of things to see that this gets a mention.

Located in the north of the city, this ordinary clock tower is just something for a quick glance while in the area which is the part of the city directly north of the Galle Face & the Beira Lake, but that "area" itself is pretty worth checking out with "eye-catching" candy-stripe-exterior-designed Jami ul-Alfar Mosque on the east side (just about a five-minute walk east from the Clock Tower) and beautiful well-maintained "colonial buildings" on the west side (along the stretch of about a 20-minute walk west from the Clock Tower with some right & left turns) all the way to beside the sea with the Lighthouse, the Kingsbury (must be the "greatest" hotel of Colombo just from the look of the building!) & the big brown Old Parliament Building with tall pillars.

I first went to Jami ul-Alfar after getting off the bus across the road from Colombo Fort (the city's "main station" for trains & buses), then walking east for about five minutes and then turning left into the "market street" called 2nd Cross where the Mosque is pretty much all the way at the end on the right side; after coming out of the Mosque, it's just a turn into the first street shortly on the right and you'll see the Clock Tower on the roundabout right at the end of that street (which also is a "market street" just like the 2nd Cross Street where the Mosque is).

These pictures shows two Clock towers, Khan clock tower is located at the start of Petta market colombo, in other words in front of the Colombo harbour gate.

Other clock tower in the pictures, the one with the Glass top and the Light is located in front of Janadhipathi Mawatha. This is the oldest clock tower in Sri Lanka, in the past it's called Old Colombo Light house and was actually a functioning light house.

The lighthouse is no longer operational, but the tower remains and functions as a clock tower. It is located at the junction of Chatham Street and Janadhipathi Mawatha (formerly Queens Road) in Colombo fort.

This is a landmark in Fort Colombo area. It is at the beginning of Pettah market. Go there if you want a first hand experience of shops in crowded lanes selling all types of wares. There are some Hindu temples in this area but I found these closed when I went there around 3 pm on a Saturday. You can click a few photos of the Clock Tower but can give it a miss if you are not interested in exploring Pettah.
