Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

One of the must visit temples in Colombo. Asokaramaya Buddhist Temple is a Buddhist temple in Kalutara, Sri Lanka. It was built during the 1870s to shelter disciples of Aluthgama Sangharatne who came to hear the monk's sermons. A wealthy local resident funded the temple's construction and subsequent expansion.

This was the very first attraction that we visited during our tuktuk tour of Colombo. The staff were friendly and were busy cleaning the buildings when we arrived. Shoes have to be removed, baskets are provided for their storage. Entrance fee is 400 LHR.
There are many statues of Buddha on display at this attraction. Some are with colorful, bright yellow and orange color schemes.

Whilst there are much older Buddhist temples in Sri Lanka ..what makes this temple is so interesting is to see how many prayers there had been answered ...
The telluric forces at this site attract visitors from all creeds and faiths ..and no local politician or senior leader can avoid to pay respect ...here people from all social levels come to pray ...
Even if you are not religious, take time and meander through the temple buildings and grounds ...it is an experience that makes your stay in Colombo more worthwhile

This is another most popular religious place. I would suggest knowing the history and have a background of the culture before going here. Or if possible a guide can help you understand better.

A very beautiful temple inside. A place that is alive with people using the temple. Not large in size and only a short time is required here. Not as inspiring as other temples around the world but worth a visit

Take a guided tour of this iconic temple to see it at its best. I was amazed by some of the collected items such as an elephants foot and elephant tusks? Let alone the large collection of guns, strange things to find in a religious establishment

Place itself is very beautiful and impressive, definitely worth to visit, but!
*just a tip*
if you will meet there a guy (he told he is an English teacher for children in this temple and could be because everyone knows him there) who wants to show you temple inside for free (explaining that he wants to show that Sri Lanka people very hospitable and he doesn't have what to do today) and shop with Sri Lanka "cheap" stones nearby - don't trust!
In the end of short story about temple he will ask for 3200 rupees + 300 rupees for entrance. Even if you don't have money with you he will propose you to bring you to ATM on tuk tuk( driver it's his friend and work with him in this plan) and force you to give him this money. I don't want to say how this story finished..
So for sure go to visit this place but just be careful.

Another beautiful Budha temple on Sri Lanka. They have vast collection of old artifacts. Locals try to make quick money from tourist which I didn't like here.

Very beautiful and colorful temple with many parts. While there are many things you would expect to see there are parts that feel a bit like a storage shed with an array of various old odds and ends. The main statues and building structure worth seeing though

This buddhist temple complex is a 30 min drive out of central Colombo - on the road to Kandy.
It’s a spacious, relaxing and beautiful site, with picturesque surroundings (meandering river in natural beauty). Its an authentic and peaceful destination for anyone keen to have a great excursion out of town. Highly recommended!

do you know cost of tuk tuk or taxi going from cruise terminal to this temple?

Not sure what the entry fee is as it was part of a tour. Cost of tuk tuks are usually negotiated before you get on.
