Neighbourhood: Beyoglu
Istanbul’s most famous street, pedestrianized Istiklal Caddesi (Independence Avenue), throbs day and night and offers a fantastic array of architectural sights, shops, treats, and throngs upon teeming throngs of people. At the avenue’s northeastern end is expansive Taksim Square, thought by many to be the very heart of the city, with many of Turkey’s most renowned restaurants and some of Europe’s most happening nightlife in close proximity. In striking contrast, Beyoglu’s less trafficked areas – such as the affluent Cihangir and the antiques district of Cukurcuma – exude Old World charm and provide contemplative calm and splendid diversion via an assortment of cozy cafes, attractive boutiques, and quiet lanes.

The Dolmabahçe Mosque (Dolmabahçe Camii or Bezmialem Valide Sultan Camii), located next to the Dolmabahçe Palace, was built according to the design of the famous Ottoman architect Karapet Amir Balyan in 1853-1855. Since the construction of the mosque was started by order of the mother of Sultan Abdulmecid I Bezmiâlem Sultan, the mosque is also known by her name... The mosque is bright and elegant, looks especially impressive from the Bosphorus waters...

The mosque was completed in 1853 by designer Balyan, commissioned by Sultan Abdulmecid and his father, but only open to the first prayer two years later.
In a mixture of maroque and rococo, the most impressive features are the classical dome and the amount of natural light coming in, causing the indoors to glow in a sweet beige.
The entrance is not charged for but make sure not to step on the carpet with shoes on!

Saw this whilst taking a short tour of the Bosphorus strait so we didn't get to stop here. Similar in design to Nusretiye Mosque.

Went there with my family for the noon prayer, right after visiting the Dolmabahce palace. The mosque from the outside is very elegant, tall, lovely minarets. It is located right next to the sea which also makes it very attractive. On the inside, you will be impressed with artful and dignified interior decoration, mostly in beige and other complementary colors. The rugs are modern and neat, not too colorful, they are just right. Everything about the mosque oozes elegance and taste. it is not too big, and it is not by any means small. Just the right size and proportions. Wholeheartedly recommended.

We tried to get in to have a look but couldn't get in. It wasn't prayer time so not sure why it was closed. It was however a very lovely building. Just a shame that we couldn't get in to see it.

Located next to the Dolmabahce Palace, this mosque is not so large or ornate and not so old. Can give it a pass if rushed for time.

Make a visit to the mosque before you enter to the fantastic pavilion
Nice to visit. Just remember has a scaf with your remove your shoes and leave them in the entrance or in the wooden box. Also the door is cover with a big hard leather think with a turkey flag..was difficult to recognize and to enter

Right next to the Dolmabahce Palace, and on the shore of the Bosphorus Strait is the Dolmabahce Mosque. This mosque was built in 1855 and commissioned by the mother of Sultan Abdulmecid I. The uniqueness of this mosque, is the circular window design, which was used for the first time in Ottoman architecture. There wasn’t much else special inside the mosque, but worth a quick visit.

This mosque very near the Domabache Palace was started by a widow of a Sultan and finished by her son in 1851. The design was heavily influenced by the British who were dominate in the area during that period
