Cooking Alaturka offers daily Turkish cooking classes, either from 10:30 to 14:30 or from 16:30 to 20:30, to groups ranging from 2 to 11 persons. You cook five authentic Turkish dishes together with other travellers, under supervision of Rocco and his Turkish chef. Our classes are hands-on and fun, as well as informative. They are suitable for both professional chefs and kitchen novices. Afterwards, enjoy your cooking efforts over lunch or dinner with some local wine. We also function as a regular lunch and dinner restaurant, offering a daily-changing four-course menu. Reservations are recommended due to limited space.

I travel around a lot and wherever I go, I take cooking classes from local places. Alaturka cooking place is stunning and absolutely one of best cooking classes I have taken so far. We cooked 7 different Turkish menus. Learning from instructor and had food we cooked in the fancy restaurant after finished was more than amazing. Instructors are very... More

Did this cooking class with my girlfriend. It was lots of fun. Rocco and his wife have a unique sense of humor, but they make the class really enjoyable. Great for couples in my opinion. The food was really yummy and filling.

This little restaurant was a real gem in an area that is otherwise loaded with restaurant tourist traps. Here we were served really interesting and tasting food fitting the region. The service was also really wonderful and we had such a great time.

If you have an interest in food and cooking, this is a great use of your time in Istanbul. A four-hour session where you get to discuss local ingredients, prepare and cook the dishes, and eat afterwards. The owner, Rocco, is Italian, but has lived in Istanbul for quite a few years. Great sense of humour, he and his team... More

Was sent there by receptionist at our hotel. Our meal was delicious. The lemon yogurt soup was my favorite part of it. The rest of the entrees such as the stuffed eggplant and something like a zucchini pancake were tasty as well. I wasn't too fond of the dessert but that could have been because I was pretty full by... More

I had a realy fun morning followed by a fatastic lunch at Cooking alaTurka. We were a small group, and were allowed to do nearly everything when cooking our lunch. Everything was done at quite high speed and some things had been prepared beforehand by the cook. One should have in mind that Cooking alaTurka also is a restaurant that... More

A really fun relaxed cooking experience, made 5 dishes as a group with the instructor and chef. Both lovely fun people. Ate the food after and it was delicious! We even made the dishes again at home!

Loved!!!! This sweet woman shared the secrets of Turkish cooking with a group of ten tourists. Her kitchen was immaculate. The gentleman who served our food was thoughtful, efficient and kind. Take advantage of this delightful opportunity if you are ever in Istanbul.

Dining at this restaurant was a real pleasure: it was relaxed, hospitable and the food was imaginative and delicious. The young family who run it were happy to explain the background to each dish and were very good company.

Staying in Sultanahmet

Neighbourhood Profile
Sultanahmet
With so many unmissable attractions within a mere stroll of each other – and all set around the site of an ancient Byzantine hippodrome – Sultanahmet is an overwhelmingly popular tourist destination, and a prime location for visitors to be wowed on a truly epic scale. Beyond the wonders of the Blue Mosque, the Hagia Sophia, Topkapi Palace, and more, this relatively small area of Istanbul somehow manages to retain an air of peace and calm. It offers visitors a significantly less celebrated but nonetheless pleasant network of quaint lanes and side streets, majestic panoramas of the Bosphorus, and an impressive assortment of accommodation options for all budgets and tastes.
