Besiktas is my favorite place in Istanbul. There is a small street with breakfast-places worth to go in the morning. In center there is a fish-market with lots of Fish-restaurants behind it. Further you should try one of the Katik place. On sea-side you can sit comfortably and eat seeds or you can go to Barbaros café to the roof... More

Besiktas District Mostly known for the high society community because of the expensive and luxury shops and hotels located within this district, yet one of the best sightseeing spot of whole Istanbul City. The only part i don't like about this district is the traffic but Istanbul has this problem all over anyway. I do recommend the visitors to catch... More

At the moment skaters using this square as an skate-yard but you still can see some old canons and a monument around the square and some bars and cafes around. Nothing more.

I decided to spend my last 2 weeks in Istanbul staying in Besiktas. Its fantastic! Great hives of shops, cafes and restaurants behind the mosque and ferry area makes it feel like a very happening place. If you wander down for dinner you will be amazed how many people are out eating and socialising (after 8pm expect to queue for... More

Lovely stroll along the Bosphorus on a sunday afternoon. This is the day off for most locals so the pier is full of families, couples and people all enjoying their day off. Great way to soak up the local atmosphere. There are some very nice cheap restaurants as well nearby and also some great shopping at much cheaper prices than... More

Beside the more touristic areas of Istanbul Taksim Beyoğlu or old Istanbul, I highly recommend you to visit Beşiktaş which gives you a closer look at Istanbul’s middle class night life. You can drink one or two beer at the restaurants by the sea or inside the ‘Çarşı’. Most of the people around you will be university students. Prices of... More

Historically Besiktas was the sailing point of the Ottoman Naval forces (hence the statue of Barbarossa Hayreddin Pasha) Now it is the home of the one of the 3 Giants of Turkish football, Besiktas JK. It is a neighborhood still intact, largely because of the sense created by and for the football team, I would say. Inside Beşiktaş çarşı (market)... More

Staying in Besiktas

Neighbourhood Profile
In Besiktas, skyscrapers compete with palaces for space in an upscale vista replete with hilly green parkland filling in the margins. Step into this rather wealthy neighbourhood and discover a rich mix of opportunities to shop, dine, and be entertained. For folks in search of urban buzz, not to mention a constant reminder of just how important Istanbul’s waterways are to its rich history, there's the frenetic Besiktas ferry terminal or the city’s most vibrant fish market to explore. For a timeout of metropolitan proportions, head to the bucolic Yildiz Park or the chic Bosphorus-side fishing village of Ortakoy. Attractions such as the grandiose Dolmabahce Palace and a bevy of other stately residences await admiration. To be sure, this large and not overly touristy swath of Istanbul yields plenty of pleasure for all.
