The Historical and Luxurious Art of BathingHistorical and Architectural Features“I hope that until the end of days, good hearted friends who take a look at what I have made, when they will perceive the seriousness and the spirit of my effort, can have a fair view and can invoke my name to pray for me.” Mimar Sinan, ArchitectThe Ayasofya Hurrem Sultan Hamam in Istanbul was designed and built by Mimar Sinan, the chief Ottoman architect. It was built at the request of Hurrem Sultan (Roxelana), the wife of Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent in the 16th century. It was built where the ancient public baths of Zeuxippus used to stand, between the Blue Mosque and the Hagia Sophia. The area is also particularly significant as the site where the Temple of Zeus once stood.

I just loved every moment spent at Hurrem Sultan Hamam. At a first glance you feel calm, tranquility and peace...then after the amazing massage you just leave your worries behind and all that matters is only you. It's all about you. It's worth it. When you are in Instanbul ...absolutely go there

If you you are ever in Istanbul with a spare £100 then this is a real luxury experience not to be missed. From the moment you enter to the last goodbye you work be washed, scrubbed, pummelled, massaged, pampered and oiled - all with sensitivity, humour and professionalism. 3 hours flew by. Highly recommended!!!

Both my husband an I had a lovely experience. Very good service. Men and women are separated which makes a more comfortable surrounding. Worth the expense

The hamam is absolutely clean, the staff very friendly and you are treated like royalty. Of course you shouldn't be shy of your body, since you're mostly naked and the bath ladies (mostly older ones) rub all over your body with a peeling glove. You have wonderful soft skin afterwards. They'll wash you and later I had a foam massage... More

My husband and I treated ourselves to the Pir-u-Pak treatment which was the first Turkish Bath experience for us. This was the most amazing therapy we have ever received. The interior of the building is exquisitely finished in marble, spotlessly clean, tranquil and quiet. The professional application of the treatment by the therapist was wonderful. Definitely recommended and look forward... More

It was blowing a blizzard outside, I was frozen to the bone, so I decided that I would take a look inside this hamam. Once inside I was instantly seduced into paying the full rate for the best treatment. It really is a little paradise secluded from the outside world. Aesthetically it's beautiful, and the hamam wash is a dream.... More

Well, it was not the case. it is a true Hammam experience. we took the full package and from the first minute you are treated like a Sultan. I had Mardy as a therapist and he did very... More

Staying in Sultanahmet

Neighbourhood Profile
Sultanahmet
With so many unmissable attractions within a mere stroll of each other – and all set around the site of an ancient Byzantine hippodrome – Sultanahmet is an overwhelmingly popular tourist destination, and a prime location for visitors to be wowed on a truly epic scale. Beyond the wonders of the Blue Mosque, the Hagia Sophia, Topkapi Palace, and more, this relatively small area of Istanbul somehow manages to retain an air of peace and calm. It offers visitors a significantly less celebrated but nonetheless pleasant network of quaint lanes and side streets, majestic panoramas of the Bosphorus, and an impressive assortment of accommodation options for all budgets and tastes.
