Very thorough and detailed tour! We really enjoyed our 3 hour tour of the palace and the harem rooms. Ahmed ( I hope I got his name right) knows and shares a lot about Turkish history. He had a nice personality and I appreciated his enthusiasm for his role as our guide! I like the way he mapped out the area for us and let us know ahead of time what we were going to see. After the tour we had time to see the jewels exhibit too! I’m so glad we took this tour!

Covered a lot of ground with very knowledgeable guide, who helped us to avoid long queues. Topkapi Palace and Harem are awesome. Don’t miss it! Wear comfy shoes.

Melissa was our tour guide for this tour. She was super enthusiastic and passionate and had a wealth of knowledge. We did a lot of research for this tour and very happy with who we chose. She was a very kind, informative tour guide. Highly recommended.

The tour was amazing!!! Melissa, the tour guide, was extremely knowledgeable and an expert in all topics. Will ask for her in my next Turkey tour with this company. I was the only person, so had a private personal tour. Kudos to the company, Walks in Europe, for not cancelling it because it was only one person. The day before, I planned another guided tour with another company, Highlights of Istanbul Small Group Walking Tour, and they cancelled it SAME day, 25 minutes AFTER the starting time, and the reason was because they had a minimum of 2 people. So, highly recommend Dolmabahce Palace Guided Tour!!

Definitely do not miss seeing the Topkapi Palace while in Istanbul! The views and history were extraordinary- and our guide added the extra background information that you can only get with a tour!

Excellent small group tour of the Blue Mosque, Roman square, and Hagia Sophia. A small group (less than 15) was a great way to interact with the guide and hear the interesting history without using an audio guide. You don’t skip the line, but we only waited 15-20 minutes and the guide talked while we were waiting to make the time go fast. Emery was a fantastic guide; very friendly and provided excellent history!

This tour provide so much information about Topkapi palace and the guide will walk you through all 4 courtyards. Ensure you give yourself at least 3-4 hours for this tour plus your exploration afterwards through the smaller exhibits. The harem was our favorite part to see how the sultan lived and it was interesting to learn how outside of the harem there were more dormitories for government workers. The tour takes you through the a few smaller exhibits through the courtyards but provides you wonderful views of Istanbul on both the city and the strait side. I do recommend to those who take this, that after the tour you get to visit the holy relics (require women to wear head scarf) and crown jewels exhibits immediately after before it gets too crowded. Also Topkapi has a few cafes to grab a small bite to eat which is nice to do as you sit in one of the corridors thinking of how it must have been living/working in that beautiful palace.

Great place to visit with a lot of history. great views of the sea, and you walk on the floors, and the walkways for the Ottomans sultans were in for many centuries..
There is so many things to see with a lot of artifacts from ottoman era and museums great experience and definitely worth a visit when you’re in it is the Istanbul.

The guide was very knowledgeable and also did a fine job of guiding us through the complex in a timely way - not showing us everything, but highlighting areas we might want to explore in detail (e.g., the kitchens, the treasury) after the tour was over. Highly recommended.

How difficult was it to do the walking tours in winter. We are planning for January.

Istanbul is not tropical and we do have a cold winter starting mid December and extending well into mid March.
It may snow for days or not at all. There may be days with glorious sunshine or lots of rain!
If you are ready and flexible it’s a good time to be here.
The tourist crowd will be gone... you won’t need reservations to restaurants... the days will be shorter and we include more “hot drink stops”.
