Top ways to experience Divanyolu Street and nearby attractions
The area
Neighbourhood: Grand Bazaar
Tourists, hawkers, and locals come together at the Grand Bazaar to comb its labyrinthine passageways in search of a bargain – be it a pair of brand name jeans, a handcrafted silk rug, or a perfectly brewed cup of tea. Outside the vast bazaar, worn, narrow streets wind their way down from its lofty perch to the southern shore of the Golden Horn, where the evocatively aromatic Spice Bazaar beckons alongside the elegant New Mosque (opened in 1665). Nearby, the famed Galata Bridge offers pedestrian access to urban delights across the river in Istanbul’s more residential and contemporary neighbourhoods, while the must-see sights of Sultanahmet are but a leisurely stroll away.

Divanyolu St is the main street of the historic Sultanahmet area. It passes nearby many prime attractions such as the Topkapi palace, Hagia Sophia, Basilica cistern,...etc.
There're many shops, historic pastry and Turkish sweets parlors as well bunch of restaurants in side streets. Like one may expect prices are higher than in other less visited parts.

It is the main road from where tramway T1 goes through. It is the heart of the Fatih area, and the road which pass in front of the most significant monuments of the city. You can find whatever you want...cafes,restaurants,shops,museums,bazaars and many more.

Divan Yolu Caddesi is in the middle of touristic attractions area very close to Sultanahmet where many shops and stores selling authentic Turkish souveniers and other gifts are at yr service. However, barganing is strongly recommended at any of these touristic stores.Good option to be here and watch out the shoppers.

I've been in Istanbul a couple of times and usually ended up on Divanyolu at least twice every day. This is basically the heart of Sultanahmet. As most people have already written, a great street with plenty of shops, cafés, restaurants. There's basically something for everyone on Divanyolu. You will find everything from local kebab kiosks to fancier dining alternatives, bars or Turkish delight and icecream, shops for everything from electronics to souvenirs, a few pharmacies, bookshops, street vendors, lottery, cinema, you name it.
There are two tram stops on the street, one is Sultanahmet and the other Çemberlitaş. You can easily reach the Grand Bazaar if you get off the tram at (or walk to) Çemberlitaş.
Divanyolu is a very lively street from around 9 in the morning when most businesses open and it continues to pulsate till the midnight hour. Most places are open till late, which is very convenient. The entrances to a few mosques are also on this street. There is even a larger department store where you will find everything from cosmetics to kitchenware and the prices are lower than in other stores or the bazaar.
All sorts of people walk up and down the street at all times, tourists, locals, children, elderly, families. It's usually crowded and wheelchair access is very limited.

This is a big thoroughfare street where one can see and do many things. One can walk it or take the Tram to go from Point A to Point B.
The two main attractions of the Old Town are located nearby: Hagai Sofia and Blue Mosque. There are restaurants, coffee shops, grooming places, stores,, mosques, other tourist attractions, etc here.
There is also a McDonald Restaurant that I used as reference point to go back to my hotel.

You get a real feel of European part of Istanbul while walking down the streets in Sultanahmet area. It's luckily not filled with scammers like Istiklal street and not very dirty like other inner streets in Beyoglu and Taksim area. This area of Sultanahmet looks a lot like posh, family area. There are many restaurants and shops here. All are highly overpriced as compared to Taksim area.
But just walking around these streets with Blue mosque and Hagia Sophia in the backdrop gives you an amazing feeling. Go there early morning, even before you are planning to visit Hagia Sophia and Blue Mosque. Around 6-7 in the morning. There will be no tourists and it would be a great experience walking down these streets.

Divan Yolu is a street, every visitor walks, or ride on, but some of us -yes, me as well- had no idea what is the name of this so often used rout. The meaning of the name is “Road to the Imperial Council,” The Imperial Council is the Divan in Topkapi Palace, and Yolu means way. Even if Divan Yolu is more prolonged, just change names a few times, for the visitor's point of view, it leads from Sultanahmet Square to Çemberlitaş It is the Main Street of the Old Town, and the route of the Bağcılar-Kabataş tram, that takes you from Çemberlitaş to Karaköy. If you’re a traveler in Istanbul, you want to see the Grand Bazaar, and it is nearby the Çemberlitaş station, and if you’re interested in Galata Tower, and Galata Bridge, the same tram takes you there.
Walking on this boulevard teach you the history of this old town offers a shopping experience and plenty of restaurants. To see the Ayasofya or, the Hippodrome, bargain, and shop, in the Grand Bazaar, have an ice cream or a kebab on the way, have a quiet time in Firuz Ağa Camii or Sultanahmet tomb, there are countless things to do or see on Divan Yolu street.

Divan Yolu means 'the way of the council'. The council of ministers or the 'divan e humayun' used to meet in Topkapi Palace. This was the path they used to take so it was dedicated for the use of the nobles and the soldiers. I felt so lucky that I was born in this day and age when there are no such restrictions and we, ordinary people, can walk on these paths where we could not have even set foot in the Ottoman times. This was the main street during the Roman times too. The tram runs on this route nowadays. You can eat kebabs and Burger King, see sights like Basilica Cistern and Blue Mosque and do shopping around this road. This road also leads to Gulhane Park. I loved the way this road climbs up as we go towards Sirkeci.

If you go to the Grand Bazar, you will cross Divanyolu. If you can, walk from Haya Sofia to the Grand Bazar. It´s a unique tour.
