Lovely mosque and cemetery near a lively university. We thought we'd seen enough mosques but glad we went to this one afterall!

We enjoyed our visit to Suleymaniye, probably more so than the Blue Mosque, as it seemed much more a place of quiet contemplation and worship and less of a tourist zoo. Take some time to stroll the grounds, including the cemetery. The tomb buildings were...More

This mosque is worth the visit! For women who don't have a head scarf, they have one available for you at the entrance.

It's sort of impudent for mere tourists to rate the mosque of one of the greatest sultans of the Ottoman Empire. It's a huge, working mosque with various side buildings. It was built by the great architect Sinan over 400 years ago. It's certainly not...More

Suleyamaniye mosque is Mimar Sinan's most beautiful form of art. His tomb is located next to the mosque.

Totally in awe visiting this mosque today. I keep thinking.... how did they do it with just very simple instruments. Right from the design to the actually building it. What an incredible architect and project manager Sinan was. The mosque is just beautiful and so...More

I agree with the others who have answered so far. The best decision I made was getting myself a data package as soon as I landed. That way, I could read up on any place when I was there or before going.

The Architect was Mimar Sinan, and the mosque was built under orders of Sultan Suleyman "The Magnificent", in Arabic Suleyman "AlQanoony'.
