Top ways to experience Beyoglu
The area
Neighbourhood: Beyoglu
Istanbul’s most famous street, pedestrianized Istiklal Caddesi (Independence Avenue), throbs day and night and offers a fantastic array of architectural sights, shops, treats, and throngs upon teeming throngs of people. At the avenue’s northeastern end is expansive Taksim Square, thought by many to be the very heart of the city, with many of Turkey’s most renowned restaurants and some of Europe’s most happening nightlife in close proximity. In striking contrast, Beyoglu’s less trafficked areas – such as the affluent Cihangir and the antiques district of Cukurcuma – exude Old World charm and provide contemplative calm and splendid diversion via an assortment of cozy cafes, attractive boutiques, and quiet lanes.

This district is often referred to as the new Istanbul - the modern part where local life thrives. We rented our apartment in this district and found the location ideal for exploring the city. Here you can find great streets with quiet restaurants and, for me as a cat lover, many cats. There are also numerous restaurants in this part of the city, especially around Taksim Square, and you can find street food on every corner.

This place in Istanbul got everything you could ever want for your visit. A lot of amazing places to see, monuments, restaurants, shops and lovely buildings. The public transport by Tram, Bus or Metro is really great. The big shopping street got a nice historical tramway trough it which is really nice. There are amazing coffee places and shops for a quick snack. The area around the Taksim square is great but a bit more expensive for all than the streets around it. An amazing place also to stay in if you are going to your istanbul trip.

Very beautiful, especially in the evening with the lights. It does get very crowded in the evenings and especially on weekends. I’d say my biggest complaint is all the cigarette smoking the Turks smoke an enormous amount of cigarettes. There is plenty of shopping, good bars and restaurants.

This is the heart of Istanbul. It is always alive. There is a lot of traffic from morning to night. Both sides of the street are full of shops that are open until late. The alleys leading to this street are full of restaurants, bars and cafes. When traveling to Istanbul, start from this street first, because in it you will find the real passion of Istanbul.

In the area that includes Istiklal Street, Galata Tower, and several museums, Beyoglu is a neighborhood definitely worth spending a few hours at least. You get to choose what to do, and how much—but the bottom line is that it’s safe, clean, charming, and quite authentic to the Istanbul experience. Yes, there is a lot of tourist amenities, but the things you can see and experience here are quintessentially Istanbul.

It was an amazing experience. My boys and I enjoyed our stay. Next time, we will plan better and explore more places. Though we visited sights we wanted to see, there is so much more to explore. We only had 5 days to visit, which is not enough to explore this beautiful city. The boat trip we went on had amazing views and was a smooth experience. We were also going to go on a bus trip but unfortunately did not find the time to do so but will do that next time for sure. The food was amazing when visiting the right places (some places are expensive and not worth it). Firuz diner near the end of the main road was amazing price wise and taste wise.

Don't go to Istanbul! The whole city is a scam. Dirty, crowded and the prices are ridiculous. You have to pay for everything and the food sucks. The people try to scam you all the time time. It's the most disappointing city I've ever been. Never ever! It's the same in the whole country. Just don't go to turkey! The whole country is scam!

Beyoglu, if you are visiting Istanbul, this place is certainly which cannot be missed. you find lot of places to eat- as per your desire. from classy expensive restaurants to road side cafes. from top branded shops to classy moderate contemporary outlets. and once you are done with the day, the place transforms into the best night out spot.

It’s a nice enough area particularly towards Galata less so at the Taksim end but I much prefer the Golden Horn if you are a tourist . It has great access to ferries which allows you to travel over to the Asian side or into other more interesting parts on the European side . For me it’s slightly blighted by the international shopping and horrible Taksim square

Its the area as you get off the end of the Galata bridge as you head up the hill towards the Galata tower and up into Taksim square. Its a lovely area full of good things to see, places to eat and is considered one of the good areas to stay when visiting Istanbul. Spend a few hours getting lost here discovering the joys of what it has to offer.

I'll be traveling to turkey in December.
I'd like to know which area is the best to stay in and names of hotels in the area that are reasonably priced and clean and comfortable ?
We looking for a place that's close to all the attractions and public transportation easily accessible.

It really depends on what type of traveller you are, what budget range of hotel and whether you want to be really near to the sights. Beyoglu or the European side is called that for obvious reasons, and Sultanahmet (the old quarter is precisely that) has fewer 4/5 star hotels but is where the major old historical buildings are situated such as the Blue Mosque and the Hagia Sofia. Having said that it is quite easy to get over to the Sultanahmet by public transport - get an Istanbul card and you can share that between different people.

Suerte

I will be staying at a hotel near taksim square in early November. Wondering if there's a restaurant tat offers wonderful lobster, shrimp and/black sea salmon nearby? One tat doesn't serve alcohol is preferred. Sending you love in advance!
