Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

It is one of the historic and main buildings in Istanbul in the old city. I am always proud of being a graduate! I have so many distinctive memories in both campuses in Beyazid. It feels me with the history and the stories of the buildings from their start. The campuses have limited access esp during registration and exam periods.

One of the university that you see on tv more than others. Mehmet the Conquerer bulit it right after he had conquered Istanbul in 1453. The oldest in Turkey. You can easily visit. Because it is in walking distance to Grand Bazaar ( one of the faculty of university. Because the departments of the buildings are spread all around the city ). Grand Bazaar, Topkapı Palace, Ayasofia.. many other top listed attractions are in the same place Historical Peninsula and walking distance. There are aproximately 80.000 students studying in Istanbul University and you have to pass the states university exam to be able to study in the school. There are security guards on the entrance of each door as the school has reputation with having students with very political, many demonstrations, and sometimes fights. There were many many famous scientist, professor, writers, authors, politicians graduated from that school

If you are a tourist and not a student of the university, be care. You are not allowed to get into the university literally. I took some pictures here, but there are some guards at the entrance, it seemed they didn't welcome tourists taking many pictures here. But the massive gate is graceful and beautiful so I recommend taking a picture here.

The oldest University in Istanbul, the first university lecture was given in Istanbul University in 1933 as far as I remember, it should also be one of the largest in the world with more than 40.000 enrolled students with actual lectures Campuses everywhere in the city. Lost it is significance with the private universities paying 5 times higher to quality lecturers, but still holds the history of the buildings, it was the ministry of defence and ministry of internal realtions during the Ottoman period. The fire tower in the garden worths seeing.

Istanbul University has five campuses; the main one (with its noteworthy gate) fronts on Beyazıt Square. The square was originally built by Constantine the Great as the Forum Tauri and was later enlarged by Theodosius the Great as the Forum of Theodosius during the Roman period. Roman and Byzantine ruins are still visible on the University campus grounds. During the Ottoman era, the Eski Saray (Old Palace) was located here, and later the headquarters of the Harbiye Nezareti (Ministry of War). The ornate Beyazıt Tower (85m) fire-watch tower is visible above the campus, now studded with telecommunications antennae. The University was founded as an institution of higher education named the Darülfünûn (House of Multiple Sciences) in 1846, and became Istanbul University in 1933. It's precursor was the Medrese (Islamic theological school) founded immediately after Mehmed II conquered Constantinople in 1453. The university has a teaching staff of 2,000 professors and associates and 4,000 assistants and younger staff. More than 60,000 undergraduate and 8,000 postgraduate students enroll in courses offered by Istanbul University every year. Unfortunately, entry onto the campus is restricted to students with an id.

I was really impressed with the grounds of this university. The front gate was really beautiful and not what I expected to see at the entrance of on inner city university. Some very lucky students!

Istanbul University was established in 1453 by the Ottoman Sultan Mehmed II. The main campus is adjacent to Beyazıt Square in the Fatih district, on the European side of the city. The Architecture of the University is attractive comprising European style with traditional Islamic motives. It has lots of green areas inside the campus which gives the University a nice and attractive environment for students.

One of the gates open near beyadid square and one could see the young crowd getting in and out of the main security gates. Outsiders who do do not have university passes cannot go inside.
