We spent hours in the place and had to leave without visiting all rooms and artifacs on display. The creativity of the young Turkish artists surprised us very positively. The day will be complete if you eat at the excellent museum restaurant, where you can enjoy a superb food while seeing the boats and ships navigating the Bosphorus.

A really interesting collection of pieces from Turkish artists. Fascinating the way ideas develop, and the variety of mediums in which they have worked. The photography was particularly enthralling on the lower ground. Definitely worth a visit.

The museum offered a lovely and mesmerizing collection as well as interesting interactive pieces. Although, if you are in Istanbul for a short amount of time, I wouldn't put this museum at the top of my list, unless you truly are a fan of modern art.

the concept of the museum is really about modern art. And restaurant&bar is perfect with the seaview. you should make a reservation, because it's really busy especially at night ! it is a romantic athmoshpere for couples but we went there with our 2-years-old babygirl at past and it was perfect, so i advice this place also for family-with-children.

If you are interested in modern arts visit this museum. You can easily reach there by tram 15 min walking distance from Karaköy area. Entrance is free on Thursdays.

Loved the setting, the view and - especially - their collection. The restaurant overlooks the ocean and is quite good. So is the museum store... many cool things to choose from.

The Istanbul Modern took a risk occupying the building they did, as it is not in the best area, surrounded by old and ugly harbor buildings, and hidden from view. But they managed and proved to be the one thing missing in Istanbul: modern art in a daring place, with a regular changing collection of fine and sometimes awkward art.... More

in İstanbul, it is really hard to find a place to experience art in that way. it is not expensive normally, but on thursdays it gets even better. screening are great. also on thursdays, there are 3, sometimes 4 screening one after another.

Easily reached by tram, the gallery is directly on the waterfront with excellent views of the Bosphorus from their restaurant. There is quite a lot of construction going on around the building so look out of the detour signs. It's always wonderful to see inspiring art from Turkish and international artists and if you have time, it is worth a... More

Staying in Karakoy

Neighbourhood Profile
Karakoy
Sitting pretty with an age-old air about it, Karakoy is situated on the European side of the Bosphorus at the mouth of the Golden Horn. Perhaps the city’s most historically significant area, it’s currently one of the most happening parts of town as well. Here street vendors and alfresco fish restaurants line the banks of the Horn where the views of major attractions across the water rival Karakoy’s own key attractions, such as the iconic 14th century Galata Tower and the Museum of Modern Art. A major hub for local and international waterborne traffic, Istanbul’s commercial and maritime heritage remains as relevant and evident as ever in Karakoy. Commuter ferries mingle with luxury cruise liners at its busy port, ensuring a continuously cosmopolitan flow of people..
