The modern museum was a delight in that it was an impressive array of modern and thought-provoking work. The main floor housed some of the most interesting art more so than expected for a famously conservative country. Lower floor was a bit of an afterthought but most of your time should be spent on the main floor.

The museum is great with various exhibitions of paintings, art installations, short movies and also a cinema downstairs. Was lucky to be there on time for a movie festival presenting turkish movies that have won awards at various festivals. The movie was great and included in my ticket price.

Depending on the exhibition on the run, you may end up seeing different stuff, but you should definitely think of having a breakfast or lunch at its beautiful restaurant/cafe by the Bosporus. Try to get a table outside during May-Oct time.

we went on a rainy day and were amazed by the wonderful art on display. It was also quite fun to watch the ship traffic on the Bosphorus and have a snack at the restaurant next door. Wonderful venue!!!

Not easy to locate among all construction projects.Exciting mix of photography to the various installations.Arrived a bit late to see the entire exhibition space, also an interesting museum shop.Combine with a restaurant visit and a few quiet hours spent in Istanbul

if you are a lover of contemporary art, this museum need to be visited. The location is amazing and the building is in a very privileged position on the Bosphorus.

Large art space with great pieces of modern Turkish artists. If you love art this is a must visit in Istanbul. I visited the exhibition entitled Artists in Their Time, a nice journey accross several modern artists with different distinsctive styles. The entrance to the museum has become cumbersome because of all the construction work before and behind the museum.... More

We visited this newish museum for a couple of hours and enjoyed the exhibitions and the space in general. It is a bit hard to find due to some surrounding building works, but it is worth the effort if you have some time to spare. Great coffee shop with spectacular views and excellent museum shop as well.

We first visited the restaurant. Good call. Great view. The museum itself is simply filled with art. It really helped me understand the history and modern mind of Turkey. Getting there on foot is a bit awkward though.

Staying in Karakoy

Neighbourhood Profile
Karakoy
Sitting pretty with an age-old air about it, Karakoy is situated on the European side of the Bosphorus at the mouth of the Golden Horn. Perhaps the city’s most historically significant area, it’s currently one of the most happening parts of town as well. Here street vendors and alfresco fish restaurants line the banks of the Horn where the views of major attractions across the water rival Karakoy’s own key attractions, such as the iconic 14th century Galata Tower and the Museum of Modern Art. A major hub for local and international waterborne traffic, Istanbul’s commercial and maritime heritage remains as relevant and evident as ever in Karakoy. Commuter ferries mingle with luxury cruise liners at its busy port, ensuring a continuously cosmopolitan flow of people..
