You don't have to be a big fan of modern arts to visit this astounding museum. The location right at tthemselves is an unforgottable experince by itself. You should not miss the museum restaurant right over the waterfront for a quality breakfast, lunch or coffee. Not only the breathtaking panorama, but also the taste and presentation of food is first... More

I didn't know what to expect. It is actually better than Tate modern in London. Do not miss it! Only down side is you can not take photos.

Istanbul Modern Museum is an unforgettable place. "Past & Future" was the name of the exhibition held in the museum during my visit. I love all kinds of art, especially contemporary or modern art and I found great masterpieces for incrediably talented artisits during my visit. Every piece tells it own story and shows hard work and talent. I really... More

Difficult to actually find the entrance, despite the occasion signage. Worth the effort . . . if only for the restaurant that overlooks the Golden Horn and the Bosphorus

We liked the curating - interesting presentations of modern art by Turkish artists - video, 3 dimensional, and paintings. The cafe has a view of Topkapi Palace, Haghia Sophia and the Blue Mosque across the Golden Horn - with ferry boats plying the waters back and forth. From most places one would be staying, a tram ride or a taxi... More

A great, concise collection. Went there with older children, felt welcomed and the museum was interesting enough for them.

Well worth a visit if you like modern art, my daughter discovered that she doesn't - at all! The restaurant connected to the museum is excellent and also has a great view on the Bosphorus.

Staying in Karakoy

Neighbourhood Profile
Sitting pretty with an age-old air about it, Karakoy is situated on the European side of the Bosphorus at the mouth of the Golden Horn. Perhaps the city’s most historically significant area, it’s currently one of the most happening parts of town as well. Here street vendors and alfresco fish restaurants line the banks of the Horn where the views of major attractions across the water rival Karakoy’s own key attractions, such as the iconic 14th century Galata Tower and the Museum of Modern Art. A major hub for local and international waterborne traffic, Istanbul’s commercial and maritime heritage remains as relevant and evident as ever in Karakoy. Commuter ferries mingle with luxury cruise liners at its busy port, ensuring a continuously cosmopolitan flow of people..
