I liked the selection of modern Turkish artists as well as the excellent library and exhibition space provided for international artists.

Great modern museum. I enjoyed nearly every piece in the Museum. The surprise was how many women artists are represented here. The space - a converted warehouse (?) - is spot on as well. A must see for anyone with a passion for Contemporary Art.

The museum has a solid, well-exhibited permanent collection of painting and sculpture. We were there for a week, but for people on ships, the museum is basicly at the cruise ship port, and wll worth a visit.

Really enjoyed the layout and the range of exhibitions. From fabulous and well-known contemporary faves, to historical turkish paintings, to contemporary turkish art. Photo, video, painting, installation etc. are all on hand. The gift shop is lovely as well if you are so inclined. We heard the cafe was quite good but the prices had us looking elsewhere as we... Istanbul modern is a beautifully designed, large open space on the Bosphorus. It has an excellent collection from Turkish artists, starting from late 19th century until the present. There are excellent visual art displays. The audio guide is helpful in providing more information on some of the more prominent artists and their work. There is a well reviewed cafe over... More

Great art venue, nice cafe, pity about my view being the lifeboat of the massive cruise ship parked right outside. What a huge disappointment. At least the art was wonderful.

If you are looking for a contrast to the ancient and traditional art that surrounds your every move in Istanbul then take the tramway over to the Istanbul Modern. The day I visited the museum it was completely dwarfed by the monstrous cruise ship parked along side but the ship could not overpower the art work inside. The current show,... More

The Istanbul Modern Art Museum is a beautiful place. We began with a coffee on their terrace and what a view! The collection of modern art on display was excellent. An while some of Istanbul's main tourist attractions had enormous queues, we strolled right into the Modern and it was not too busy inside. (a note about some of the... More

Staying in Karakoy

Neighbourhood Profile
Karakoy
Sitting pretty with an age-old air about it, Karakoy is situated on the European side of the Bosphorus at the mouth of the Golden Horn. Perhaps the city’s most historically significant area, it’s currently one of the most happening parts of town as well. Here street vendors and alfresco fish restaurants line the banks of the Horn where the views of major attractions across the water rival Karakoy’s own key attractions, such as the iconic 14th century Galata Tower and the Museum of Modern Art. A major hub for local and international waterborne traffic, Istanbul’s commercial and maritime heritage remains as relevant and evident as ever in Karakoy. Commuter ferries mingle with luxury cruise liners at its busy port, ensuring a continuously cosmopolitan flow of people..
