About
The cinili Hamam, located in uskudar, was built by Kosem Sultan in 1640. For many years it remained closed and almost forgotten, but in 1964 it was transferred to private ownership and reopened its doors to customers. Known for its historically important tilework, it is also one of the hamams in istanbul, which has preserved its original structure.

Easily accessible via ferry or metro depending on where you are, this is one of the most authentic Turkish baths I have been to. Don’t expect 5 star luxury but DO expect to experience the friendliest and most genuine hosts, a real Turkish massage and a good cup of tea after. Everything was better than I expected and all for less than a quarter of the price of tourist based bath houses. Couldn’t recommend more for those seeking authenticity and experience. Be prepared for a real kese and massage!

This is the authentic experience! Beautiful domed room with tiles and marbles and the light shining down from hexagonal slots in the dome. No English spoken but we communicated effectively! Brisk, efficient, thorough scrubbing with great charm! I've never been cleaner in my life!Strongly recommend - there are no frills of a luxury spa for tourists - this is the no-nonsense real deal!

Excellent, really good value, very authentic and ‘local’ feel to the place.
I visited the male side - the guys were welcoming and professional, they did a good job and were very hospitable. I was not rushed and felt very relaxed at the end.
My partner visited the women side and said the same - she was even invited to join their lunch!
It’s a little off the tourist track but well worth it. We took a taxi there (take care, they are all sharks) and then the bus and a ferry ride back to the European side of the city.

Hamam is an old historical relaxing and toxic cleaning procedure, so if you want to feel the whole sense it is better to live it in an authentic place, from the experts. This 400 years old hamam belongs and is operated by the same family the last 3 generations. Give to yourself a great gift and visit Cinili hamam. I traveled through the centuries for more than an hour and for one third of the money of other baths. Definitely is an one in a lifetime experience.

Cost 500tl for the real deal. Not much english spoken but the wonderful ladies guided me through the experience. I arrived and went in straight away with no prebooking. You can keep your bikini on, but you'll be topless for the massage (women and men are separate). Spent a bit over an hour in there and came out so clean. Recommend taking any earrings out - I lost one but this was my fault. The lady did help me look for it. Highly recommended - not a tourist trap.

Great experience and about half cost what you would pay in Europe side of Istanbul, especially in Sultanahmet district. It was built in 1640 by Sultan Köse. This place is clean, well maintained and primarily visited by locals inhabitants. It has 2 separate section (entrances) for women and men. In women side, you will find merely local females working with broken or no English which is not a problem at all. All could be communicated with gestures and prices are clearly written, no hidden costs. I paid 60 TL (Entrance fee 30 TL+ scrubbing (exfoliation) 15TL + Foam body wash and hairs 15 TL).
Timing:
Overall 90 min
35 min - In Turkish bath self-service (soaking, sauna)
25 min - Scrubbing, foam wash, hairs, rinse by attendee
20 min- Napping
10 min - dressing up/undressing, hair drying
Procedure:
1. Tell at the reception what service you want (Scrubbing, Foam wash, oil massage)
2. Get a key from your own cabin with the resting bench and get undressed. Undies are required to wear.
3. Wrap yourself in provided linen and wear their plastic shoes. Take your provided bowl with a soap and a towel. I suggest getting a bottle of water from the reception before entering the Turkish bath.
4. Follow your attendees into the Turkish bath, where you will be allocated with one of the marble basins. A ladie will illustrate what you should be doing but it's better to observe others and copy them :)
5. After you feel really warm and washed you may proceed into the sauna.
6. Then, when it's time, your assigned lady will collect you and show you your spot on the heated marble hexagon.
7. In laying position, the scrubbing is made: back side, front, 1 side and other side and then both hands in sitting position. This could be sometimes less pleasant experience, especially if you have some skin condition or birthmark(s).
8. You will be directed to your marble basin to rinse.
9. Going back to marble hexagon for foam wash. Same steps as during scrubbing process.
10. Going to your marble basin where your attendee will rinse you and shampoo your hair.
11. Final rinse should be cooling your body temperature down.
12. Wrap yourself in your towel and relax or go back to your cabin to lay down to nap for a bit.
13. A hot beverage included in your service.
How to get there:
a. Ferry lines to Uskudar 2.20 TL (departing from Kabatas, Karakoy and Eminonu)
b. Micro bus 1.80 TL from the port to the round-abound of Zeynep Kamil (about 5 min by bus depending on traffic)
c. Walk about 600m (5 min) towards Cinili Camii (Tiled Mosque)
d. Arrive to Cimimi Hamam and look for m/w correct entrance
If you get lost, ask anyone on the street showing them gesture of washing your hair and pouring water from a small bowl on yourself.
Enjoy it.

This was my first experience in a Turkish Bath and I was by myself because my wife and her friends were in the women only side. I didn't speak Turkish and the staff didn't speak English. It is pretty explanatory though once inside. For 37 Turkish Lira you get steam bath, body scrub and massage. Overall the experience was great and I thoroughly enjoyed it, I expect to go back once more in a week. For a more detailed visit please see below.
Provided: Sandals, Locker that is locked with key that you keep with you, towels, soap, water/tea
Arrival:
You are directed to walk-in locker where you disrobe and wrap yourself in a supplied thin wrap around your waist (you can wear swimming trunks instead if you would like. You are then directed to the sauna, you get there by passing through a shower and bathroom area.
Steam Bath:
They have a dry sauna inside the steam bath area, I recommend to start there to get a nice sweat going and then relax in the middle of the room to take in your surroundings.
Body Scrub:
An attendant will come get you and direct you to the shower area where you will sit down and he will throw some water on you to ensure you are properly soaked. Thorough scrub will then occur over entire body, shocking what may come off! After scrub, attendant will throw water on you again to rinse off all the scrubbed skin. You are then sent back into the steam bath.
Massage:
After scrub, you are sent back into the steam bath for more relaxation. The attendant when ready will come get you and have you lay down in middle of room on marble slab. He will lather you up and give a heavy rub down on your back and then you will roll over and he will give another heavy rub down along the front. You will then be taken back to the bath area to get a rub down on your shoulders, neck and head. You also will get a rub down with soap. If you have your own shampoo they will use that as well to scrub your head.
Steam Bath if needed....if you want to relax some more you can, when done you head to your locker. Another attendant will wrap you in towels and you will be lead to a seat. You will most likely be offered Tea or Water, opt for the tea if you can stand some more heat. If you want to lay down afterwards in your locker, go for it for some additional relaxation.
When done you may need some cold drinks to get refreshed, there is a market right around the corner that sells cold drinks. I grabbed an iced tea and enjoyed it immensely!

In case you want a nice quiet place, where locals go, where prices are decent, and service is excellent, go there. The staff is since years, you just feel immeditely at home. Go to Üsküdar, then take a taxi, you pay a small amount only, transportation will be the easiest.

People were very friendly and welcoming. Other reviews have described the process and it is accurate. To get there take the ferry to Uskudar and then dolmus or bus and walk down hill and then to the right when they put you out. The current rates are 25TL for entrance. 7.5TL for scrub and 7.5TL for massage and soaping. You can bring your own soap, shampoo, towel and kese or pay 20TL for those items to be provided. Recommend you bring a small plastic bag for whatever items you will bring with you into the bath. There is a shelf in the steam bath over the basin where you will be sitting that you can put things including the key to your locker while you enjoy the bath. The late afternoon we were there, we were the only non locals. They do have kese (rough mit used for scrub) for sale at the entrance. No need to run around in local shops to try to find one. I highly recommend.

One of those "must do" activities is to experience a Turkish Hammam! You can find a Hammam everywhere from the Hilton to a random neighbourhood. I decided to try something authentic and a friend had researched and tried this one out and said it was authentic. She was very accurate. This hammam is in a neighbourhood not really near any place that tourists go and so it could be a challenge to get there. As you may have read from others the men and women are kept separate. There are many women who work there and do not be shocked when all of these older woman are working in just their underwear (or bathing suit bottoms- I didn't ask). They do not speak any English and as my Turkish is limited there was a lot of me shrugging my shoulders to let them know I had NO CLUE what I was doing. They laughed at me and through a bucket of warm water on me! Even though the building is old the inside is covered in marble and is kept warm. I kept my underwear on (some people do and some people don't) though expect that when you are getting scrubbed and washed that they will pull them up and down. I felt great after I was done but I have really dry skin and really would have like to have an oil massage...I don't think that was an option...but since my communication was a bit limited I may be wrong. The people that work there are very lovely and the experience was great!!
