We did a full old city tour with Serhat and it was a great start to our Istanbul visit. He's extremely knowledgeable and well prepared and has excellent English. As we toured he also provided plenty of advise on restaurants and stores in our area.

My friend and I stumbled across Serhat’s extensive website, Istanbul Clues, while we were preparing for a trip to Istanbul, and we asked him to guide us for a day and half during our visit. We are glad that we chose him. We spent one day exploring Sultanahmet and a half a day exploring two neighborhoods, Fener and Balat. In Sultanahmet, we visited the Hagia Sophia, Hagia Irene, Topkapi Palace, and the Hippodrome. By mid-afternoon, my friend’s knee was beginning to bother her, and Serhat graciously agreed to postpone our visit to the Blue Mosque and the Cistern of Theodosius until our next meeting. In Fener and Balat, he was able to arrange for us to visit several mosques and orthodox churches that most tourists never see. His expertise provided context and a wealth of information about the history, architecture and culture of Istanbul. I would highly recommend Serhat, and would not hesitate to hire him again.

My wife and I hired Serhat for 3 days of private touring in October 2019. Serhat took us all over the city; we were able to pack in a weeks worth of touring by hiring him privately. It was very nice having a private tour because we got to do what we wanted to do when we wanted to do it; would have been very difficult to accommodate our packed schedule with a package/group tour. He is very polite and knowledgeable about all the sites. He speaks excellent English, and knows the ins-and-outs of the city, so he is able to make the city come to life. He's a great guide.

I am sorry it took me so long to write this. But I must say it. Serhat deserves it. We booked one half day tour and a full date tour. They are all private ! Very cozy. I can only say good things. Serhat speaks english perfectly. I was ashamed of mine compared. He showed us all places of interest. He his flexible about the tour. You decide what you want too see. He brings you there. No need to mention his knowledge. He has a lot of experience. I was amazed how much he knew about religious creeds. All ! He has a very good academic background. I would say booking with Serhat is a good investment. You miss otherwise a lot of interest information. And time. He brought us to the Chora Church Museum. Way too difficult to find for a tourist ! Maybe possible to get there on your own, but also a waste of precious time. We will definitely visit Istanbul again. An book Serhat !

Serhat Engul is the right guide for you if you are looking for insightful guidance from a kind and thorough man with excellent command of English. Istanbul is one of the great cities of the world. We spent two full days touring Byzantine and Ottoman Istanbul with additional visits to the Grand Bazaar and elsewhere. He has a comprehensive knowledge of the history, art and architecture, and conveys his understanding in a subtle and understated way that is charming and always polite. He is clearly proud of his city and nation, but respectful of visitors and their individual needs and goals. Highly recommended!!!
