We felt TRAPPED on two different Israel tours by two different tour companies. You are inside these stores with your group for over an hour; continuously approached like you are on a carnival midway. Watched as they and the tour guides that are not Jewish and the bus drivers especially will pat & pour over any females in your group [something foreign in their culture] in order to SELL. Pressure was astounding & people falling for it. You have NO way of knowing where your money is going or to what group you are financing.

What a lovely shopping experience! The olive wood carvings are stunning . There are so many lovely nativity and other spiritual carvings. There is also a very nice jewelry area with gorgeous cross and other necklaces. The staff were so friendly and helpful and able to answer all my questions about shipping and about care of the olive wood carvings I purchased.

for customer service in a capitalistically driven world, close to it. i visited the bethlehem new store on a mission: find my grandson something for his pending confirmation, preferably a carving of saint michael the archangel since that was his selection for confirmation. i was shown a beautiful piece with a price tag approaching $2500, which i said was just slightly beyond my price range. how about something closer to $100. my assister went into the back of the store and pulled out what i thought was a very attractive carving and in the end we agreed to a price of approximately $135. i thought i'd be on my wife and family's short list for sainthood myself after i had the piece and numerous others blessed in jerusalem before leaving country.
imagine my surprise when i get home to learn from my wife that i purchased a beautiful statue of saint george!? i can't say i was sent to the woodshed, but i clearly wasn't getting any points and looked the dunce in the process.
so feeling a bit misguided and culpable, i sent an email to customer service repeating my story. the email i received was just a shade this side of the veil. they were so sorry and would i please accept the gift of a free carving of saint michael with their good blessings for my grandson and his confirmation. it was enough to make a grown man turn back to god if i'd ever turned away! and when i offered to return the saint george i was politely told to keep it as well. how often does that happen? the new statue arrived in about a week with a customs form attached claiming a value of $100, which is approximately the same value of what i purchased. equally true to their word, the statute is beautiful. my wife particularly loves the grains in the wood and look on michael's face.
so that's the type people with whom you're dealing. i should add that my tour group was fortunate enough to have the proprietor on site when we arrived and he welcomed us with with, if memory serves, an aramaic sharing of the Lord's Prayer. i purchased another few hundred dollars worth of items and strongly recommend the jerusalem cross, which i bought for my wife and i and each of our three children's families. the olive wood rosary was a particularly big hit with my mother-in-law, displacing others she's had for years as her new "favorite."
in sum, if you have an opportunity, this is grand store to visit. bargain for sure and relax knowing that if you make a mistake they'll be more than happy to work with you to make things right.

This is one store that should come off the tour for Christians - they are not truthful on how the items are made and take you below the store to try and sell you on the craftsmanship that goes into the carvings - I was there 10 years ago, and it was the same old stumps that were there then and now. All I can say is buyer beware!

Our tour group of 50 was brought here by our tour guide. He hurried us past the shops on the street between the church and the bus to get us here. He obviously has a connection here. The high pressure in the store is annoying. Many of us felt we were in a used car lot. Stop and look at one piece and they pounce. The owner's greeting of the bus was just the beginning. Very distasteful experience.

High pressure sales tactics. Immediately upon arriving, the door was locked and shades closed. We were forced to listen to two long speeches while I saw my tour guide negotiating his cut with the owner. I was eavesdropping, it was 20%. I saw my tour guide turn into a salesperson and try to get a little old lady to pay $1800 for an “amazing deal” necklace that I knew should be sub-$500. I did a google image search and saw the same necklace for $300 online, so I confirmed it. One thing I know is jewelry and this place sells jewelry pieces at 5 times the going rate in the U.S. That is HUGE inflation. I went to Jerusalem and saw the SAME olive wood carvings for WAY less money. I’m talking exactly the same pieces but only a fraction of the cost. I expect slightly inflated prices in touristy areas, but this disgusted me. Especially the slimy tactics I witnessed and how my tour guide assisted in taking advantage. I confronted the owner and he said if I am truly a Christian I would want to support a Christian business, and that their jewelry pieces are one of a kind and the best quality in the entire world so I didn’t know what I was talking about. That’s hilarious since I have taken gemology courses. I was then followed by 3 big guys the rest of the time to ensure I didn’t talk to any guests.

This is a souvenir shop in Bethlehem where we can buy here. items for sale range from fairly complete ointment, olive wood carving, display walls, dates, chocolates, perfume and more. I purchased a display wall of ceramic here. the price is relatively more expensive than items offered on the roadside, but the quality of the goods is better and more varied. purchased items are packaged properly

Love the management and inviting atmosphere of this store. Prices were good, quality superb, and variety extensive. As a travel agent, I look for businesses that I know clients and fellow travelers can be assured is reputable and stands behind their work. They will ship items for you - or you can take with you. Nice to know there are options!

We visited the Jerusalem branch of this store as we could not cross over into Bethlehem due to war related circumstances. This is a lovely store and the Manager is a very honest nice man to deal with. We bought a beautiful rug that was pretty pricey but a real treasure. We had to have it shipped to the US. It arrived to our address just like they said, in great shape, and we are so happy! We have a weakness for these rugs as they make a home look so beautiful. These Arab Christians are very honest and trustworthy people if you want to do some business with them. They have a very good reputation all over the world. Always enjoy going to this store for small things or expensive things, you will find something to treasure!

This store has a lot to look at and if you want something from Bethlehem that was made here this may be the place. It is not in Manger Square but it does have a large variety of things. We never felt pressured to buy anything although there was someone close by if we had a question.
