Our tour group visited the Dome of the Rock / Temple Mount area in February of 2020 and it was a very powerful visit. Our tour company did a good thing and got us there before 7:30 AM and we were the first tour group to get there and were able to enjoy the visit without hundreds of people walking around.
The powerful part of the visit for myself was just realizing you were walking on some of the same stones that Jesus and his disciples walked on. Many of the stones have been replaced but most have not. The Dome of the Rock is an impressive structure with its 24 carat gold covering and ornate mosaics. Of course, not being a follower of Islam I was not allowed to go in but it was pretty impressive from the outside.

The Dome of the Rock dominates the Temple Mount. Unintentionally, I managed to capture it in numerous photos that I took of the Jerusalem skyline. Although there are taller structures, the whopping size of the gold-plated dome immediately draws the eye (especially pretty shining in the sun). I admired from afar. The Dome covers a slab of rock that is sacred to Muslims and Jews. Everyone regardless of religion is welcome in the plaza; only Muslims can enter the Dome.

As a Muslim, I was able to enter the Aqsa Complex where the Dome of Rock is situated. It is a simple octagonal mosque structure with significant gold coated dome making it a breathtaking landmark for Jerusalem. The interior of Dome of Rock is so beautiful with variety of Islamic decoration, motives and patterns. I felt blessed & enriching to be able to pray in this sacred place. So many historical spots also can be visited around the al-Aqsa complex with many prophet's stories to be told. Truly wonderful.

The glistening, golden Islamic "Dome of the Rock" is visible from throughout Jerusalem, erected prominently upon Temple Mount. Built in the 7th Century, and later set with colorful mosaic tiles under Suleiman I in 1561, only the exterior of this imposing edifice can be viewed by non-Muslims. This is an impressive architectural structure, which people of any religion can appreciate while walking the venerated acreage of Temple Mount.

Magnificent! One of those places I have always wanted to visit. This iconic mosque in the heart of Jerusalem is an amazing site and the atmosphere of the whole area feels electric. So much activity with this incredible centrepiece. After navigating the market streets and alleyways from the old city you come out to the view of the golden dome and ascend a large wide stone staircase and enter under a series of arches. The beautiful gold and blue of the main part of the mosque is jaw dropping. Seeing all the families and individuals congregating around the wide open square adds to the magic. Then look around at the city around you and the mount behind.

The Dome of the Rock is an iconic landmark in Jerusalem. It has an octagonal structure, a blue mosaic facade, and a glittering golden Byzantine dome. The gold inlaid weighs over 80kg. Muslims donated over 100000 gold dinar coins to be melted down. The Al Aqsa Mosque complex is at the south end of the esplanade.
The Dome on the Rock was built upon a sacred rock in 692 CE. A rock slab, Abraham nearly sacrificed his son to God. The son was Ishmael and not Issac. In the Islamic scriptures, Muhammad prayed here before his ascension to Heaven with the Archangel Gabriel. In his 'Night Journey, they stopped at Mount Sinai and met Abraham, Moses, and Jesus, before flying back to Mecca.
This Muslim shrine was built on sacred Jewish sites and Christian churches. It remains a flashpoint for conflict in the 3 Abrahamic faiths.

Stunning place. Glad to see people getting along at this very holy site. About 40 years ago we visited and at that time we (who are not Moslem but respect the religion and its followers) were able to go inside. This is only possible now for members of that religion.
Nevertheless it is a beautiful place to visit. Strongly recommended.

We usually have trouble on the Temple Mount, guards yelling at us and making us cover up more than others. However, this time was great. It was cool and peaceful, no one yelled, and everyone managed to be dressed to their liking. It made it a much nicer moment on the Temple Mount.

The Dome of the Rock is visible from all over Jerusalem and nearby; we had the opportunity to go up on top of the Temple Mount and view the building and its dome up close, although since we are not Muslim we weren't able to go inside. This building is iconic and atop a place which is sacred to Muslims, Jews, and Christians; I was able to go inside years ago (early 90's) but now it's no longer accessible. It is still worth going to the Temple Mount to see the beautiful building and other sights atop the mount.

Dome of the Rock is a Muslim Mosque. Its one of the 5 mosques inside the AlAqsa compound. In the centre inside the mosque is a hugh Rock and it is " hanging " ie there is no base , under is a small cave which is also used as a praying area. The rock was where the Prophet Mohamad ( peace be upon him ) stood before he was taken by the Angel to meet GOD The roof / dome is made of gold donated by the Saudi King. Entrance to the mosque is guarded by armed Israel soldiers. A must visit by muslim all over the World ( should they have enough funds to travel)

Hi! It’s a dream to get Islamic married in Al Aqsa Mosque. Living in the UK, I have little information about how possible this is. Is it possible to get an Islamic marriage done in the mosque? How easily is it done?
Answers are very much appreciated!

Visiting Hours
For non-Muslim visitors, Temple Mount can be visited Sunday through Thursday:
Summer: April through September: 8:30 – 10:30 am and 1:30 – 2:30 pm
Winter: October through March: 7:30 – 10:30 am and 12:30 – 1:30 pm
Temple Mount is closed to tourists on Fridays, Saturdays, and during Muslim holidays.
During peak season, plan on arriving at least an hour early since queues can be long and only limited numbers of people are allowed to enter.
There is no charge to visit Temple Mount.

Can I bring a tripod to take photos? Or are tripods forbidden?
Written 1 March 2018
I took a little gorilla pod (a small tripod for my phone) and it was taken by security at the checkpoint. No problem though, I just picked it up later.

Selfie sticks are forbidden so I would guess a tripod is also forbidden. It can be used as a weapon.

Can you recommend guides who can get me into Dome of the Rock?
Written 18 May 2016
Only muslims are allowed to visit the Dome of the Rock.. They check your passports to see your nationality and ask you to recite from Quran.
Regarding the guides, they give you one from the checkpoint. You are not allowed to go by yourself as a tourist.
Hope I could help..
