Awesome tour of Jaffa

Samuel was an excellent guide for our evening tour of Jaffa. He’s is super friendly and amazingly knowledgeable about all things Israel. The evening walk through ancient Jaffa was a delight and Samuel was very attentive, making sure we were happy throughout the tour, and adjusting the pace appropriately.

I would definitely recommended Samuel if you’re thinking about a guide anywhere in Israel. He is friendly, personable and a total expert!

Jacob’s skill in storytelling helped to bring Jaffa town to life. He was able to transport out through the history of Jaffa in a fun yet informative way. I would def recommend this tour and Jacob, he is a phenomenal tour guide!

WOW!!!! The best tour ever!!! Samuel is a true storyteller!! The tour started at the clock tower and took us back to the beginning of time… as though we walked the streets with all the historical figures who walked there before us!! This is my 3rd tour with Samuel and I am looking forward to many more! Few guides manage to make Israel come alive as he does!!! Hands down THE BEST!!

A great day out in the north

Samuel took me on a private tour of several sites in the north of Israel, on a full-day trip. We visited Yodfat National Park, where he brought the history of the place to life, even bringing with his own copy of Josephus, as we walked around the remains. Then we spent some time at the Monkey Forest animal shelter park, which was a delight. We finished with a look around the prehistoric caves of the Carmel. Everything was explained with great verve and British wit.

Samuel's broad knowledge of Israeli history along with a phenomenal and even-handed grasp of contemporary Israeli culture, politics and society, meant that the time travelling to and between the various stops flew by. I was delighted to also grab an amazing late lunch with him at a place in Hadera he had heard was good for carnivores like me, which was also superb.

I'm happy to recommend him, especially for anyone trying to pack in a lot in a short trip.

Value not worth it

If you charge over $600 for 2 hour trip, at least you can provide some snacks, drinks. There were no even water offered while guide made sure to bring his backpack with water just for himself. We were cold but but guide didn’t not have any suggestions but sit on the bench outside in the breeze and listen his stories. He was very knowledgeable but lack of service especially when he got paid over $600 just for 2 hours.

I'm devastated to hear that you were not happy with your experience as I set extremely high standards for myself. And so first, I'm really, genuinely, disappointed that the tour didn't meet your expectations. The cost is the specific price of an evening tour in Jaffa offered through the TripAdvisor/Viator website. A significant amount of the fee doesn't actually go to the guide. That's not a problem from my point of view but I thought it was worth clarifying as it may not be obvious. Also, the pricing isn't reflective of the cost of the personalised private day tours I offer for direct booking which are all custom-built based on people's interests and budget. I went back to look over the tour description. It does state clearly what is included (licensed tour guide, entry fees) but it doesn't explicity state that refreshments aren't included and so I have made that change to hopefully avoid confusion in the future. The duration of the tour is indicated as 1-3 hours and the description says that "we'll wander the alleyways of Old Jaffa, discovering its stories, tales and legends". I always begin every tour by emphasising that the tour is yours. That even though there is a timeframe, I'm not on the clock. And that I'd really like you to tell me how you're doing, if you'd like to change things up in the middle, if there's something to improve, if you want to stop for a coffee etc. Because I recognise this is sometimes difficult culturally and people don't want to offend, I check in regularly during the tour and make sure that you're interested in more stories, that you still have energy, if you'd like a break etc. And because it was a cool evening I asked if you were ok with the temperature and also offered to borrow my jacket. I always want the people I'm guiding to have the best time possible. Giving people a great experience is what gives me the greatest satisfaction. That's why I do my best to encourage real-time feedback throughout any tour because if there is anything you'd like to change, normally I can - and will. I was particularly sad to read this review as on a personal level I very much enjoyed meeting you both, getting to know you, exploring the winding alleyways of Jaffa together and answering all your very insightful questions. I hope that the rest of your trip here is fantastic. And, as I said on the night, if you have any questions at all or need any advice about the rest of your time here, you're welcome to be in touch and it would be my pleasure.

Excellent Tour

Samuel expertly weaves ancient folklore, historical narrative, current events and just the right dosage of dad jokes to provide a masterful Yafo touring experience.

I highly recommend this tour for anyone looking to take a dive into Yafo’s rich history in a way that is both educational and entertaining.
