- Crimson786Islamabad Capital Territory, Pakistan179 contributionsMust Visit MuseumLet's start with the secret tip.. if you're a resident of Qatar, you go free; if you're a visitor, you buy a ticket but the ticket is valid for about half a dozen other museums too including National Museum & Sports Museum. The museum houses multiple galleries displaying permanent and temporary exhibits from almost all nooks and corners of Islamic world. Beautiful artefacts including calligraphy, jewellery, weapons and clothing, ceramics and pottery etc. I visited in February 2023, while they had a temporary gallery on Baghdad. The architecture, location and views around the museum are stunning.Visited April 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 2 April 2023
- vicdaikaterysBurton upon Trent, United Kingdom25 contributionsStunning building and view, great collectionStunning building from all angles. If you can walk out toward to the park to the right and along the waterfront to the sculpture you can see the building from different viewpoints. Inside it is just as stunning - very expansive and immaculate, detailed marble and sweeping staircase and architectural ceiling. The collection was beautifully curated and interesting. Some of the placards are hard to read in the dim light but that's my age ! Ramadan curtailed hours and meant no café or restaurant open, which is understandable but a shame as that would have made the experience more enjoyable, The views from the café of the city and islands would have been wonderful. We bought a silver pass for 99 Riyals each which allowed 5 days of visits in 6 museums including the Museum of Qatar and the Museum of Sport at the Khalifa stadium - we did these 3 over 3 days and they were all great value.Visited April 2023Written 13 April 2023

I paid QR 99 for 5 museum ticket (also included National Museum). 2 full floors of amazing treasures and helpful descriptions in English against each. - Zain M4 contributionsAn unexpected find!A wonderful and unexpected find! Tourist friendly layout with adequate descriptions of artifacts going back 1300 years. Plenty to keep kids 6 and above interested. Highly recommended for a layover trip in Doha. The entire tour of 3 floors took about 3 hours. There is also a cafe on first floor with awesome views of downtown Doha.Visited May 2023Written 14 May 2023
- RosT00Larne, United Kingdom13 contributionsA must-see for visitors to Doha.Fantastic exhibition on the styles of mosques over the centuries. A must-see for any visitor to Doha. My teenage daughter got in free which was great. She really enjoyed the exhibitions which fed into her love of history and art. We spent about 3 hours here including lunch in the cafe. There is a lovely shop selling expensive, quality mementos of your visit.Visited July 2023Travelled with familyWritten 19 July 2023
- AndrewPhnom Penh, Cambodia655 contributionsStunning. This is one of the finest museums I have ever had the pleasure of being in. Its stunning architecture and beautiful layout provide a perfect backdrop for the treasures on display. Set across five floors, there’s plenty to see - all well lit and with accompanying details. It’s a feast for the eyes. We were here on a very quiet Wednesday in late July and had the place almost to ourselves. Exiting through the gift shop was an equally pleasant surprise, with some beautiful items for sale and at equally surprising prices. Could have spent a king’s ransom in there :) Highly recommended if you’ve got a day or two to spare in Doha.Visited August 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 7 August 2023
- Louise HSydney, Australia70 contributionsUnderstanding IslamArchitecturally amazing - inside and outside. As you approach you wonder where the windows are, then upon entering you are in a 50 m high atrium that is awesome! A large window on the ground floor provides a great view of Doha city centre. Designed by a Chinese architect (IM Pei) its a lovely space to just sit a sip tea/coffee. The exhibits include artefacts from antiquity that document the global spread of Islam. You can purchase a 5 day ticket for ~AUD 45 that will give you entrance to multiple museums, rather than purchasing individual tickets.Visited August 2023Travelled soloWritten 18 August 2023
- Moally D1 contributionMy museum experienceWhat a spectacular museum with art coming from all of the world! They did such a great job displaying ancient and modern art all in one museum. - NoosaKingsNoosa, Australia373 contributionsEvery traveler to Doha should visit this museum.Every traveler to Doha should visit this museum. We spent an entire morning here. Just walking into the building is a breathtaking moment in itself with a vast central foyer and stairs leading to the other levels. Past the stairway there are floor to ceiling windows showing a spectacular view of Doha and a cafe serving hot/cold drinks and snacks. One level is dedicated to the history of Islam which was informative and fascinating. Between exhibits we stopped for coffee and cake with views, then back to the next level for more. The exhibits are creative and modern and there is something for everyone, from jewelery to artifacts. Allow 2 hours but could spend more time.Visited July 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 1 September 2023

This made a huge difference in our experience! We had a wonderful guide (I’m sorry I don’t know her name). She took us through a few of the galleries highlighting several items and giving us lots of information. The building itself is beautiful and the exhibits are fascinating. A must-see in Doha!Visited September 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 29 September 2023

Wonderful museum with the best objects of the Islamic world. A place for both experts and those with little knowledge of Islamic Art. The museum was designed by Chinese American architect IMPei and is so beautiful. While visiting be sure to also visit the library, gift shop and cafe for light lunch or IDAM restaurant on the 5th floor. Plan to spend 2-3 hours at the museum. In winter you can also enjoy the park.

First one has to start with the architecture, if you are a lover of architecture then this is a must-see. Truly one of I.M. Pei's best.
The museum's collection is also wonderful and the layout of the galleries really gives you an immersive experience into the beauty of Middle Eastern and Islamic art and architecture. If able to get one of the guided tours as it helps to enrich your experience especially if traveling with a group.

Really interesting and historically rich exhibitions.
Great for history buffs like me who really enjoy seeing how things were like in the early centuries before the British colonised & stole everything.
Could get a little boring for very young families with kids as you understandably have to be quiet in the exhibition rooms. They may enjoy seeing things but will want to see and move on quickly. Better for slightly older families.

A very comprehensive collection from around the Islamic world and lots of English signage to explain. However, I didn't like the somber lighting and the slightly confusing layout and to be quite honest, it doesn't compare with the excellent Islamic Art Museum in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Very nice. 4 floors of varying exhibits. We reserved entry tickets on-line. Free for Residents. Think @ $15 if visitor to Qatar. Lots of Iranian silk, from clothing to carpets. The usual pottery & paintings. Some interesting military swords, knives, helmets etc.

Very beautiful museum with a great collection. Not much to do for children, we had our 3 year old with us and she was not a fan, would have been nice with a small kids corner but over all very good museum!

Wow, this is a stunning museum. It is a place that every visitor to Qatar should see. The building itself creates an atmosphere of serene dignified beauty where items of religious and historic significance are displayed with insight to their origins and purpose. What a great way to spend an afternoon.

The museum opens at 9 but my flight arrives at 5:30am. Is access to the outdoor area with the beautiful arches overlooking Doha skyline require admission to the museum? Do I need to wait til they open to see it?

I recall that I had to go through the main building and take the doors out to the left to get to the courtyard area with the arches overlooking the skyline.

В этом музее собраны древности под 3-4 тыс лет, вряд ли их это заинтересует...
