Damascus the old one. The one with old houses, narrow alleyways. With gates still standing and mosques still calling for prayer and churches ringing their bells every Sunday. Damascus with the simple and calm life. With social proximity. The door next to the other. The old walled city with a mosque that once upon a time was a church. With... More

Some of the best history is in that area, Christianity is showing on what is now the Umayyad mosque after the invasion, the little shops, cafes, restaurants, would blow your mind and prepare to get souvenirs from there

Visited Summer 2010 Damascus is an ancient city and you really feel that when walking in the old city. The ancient architecture and mixture of buildings really brings history to life. There are so many historical tales that take place in this city, so it was really amazing to be standing in the middle of it.

Shows the history of the region. I saw it in 1996. It was a place for families. There was a lot of tourists there but now none.

The best time to walk through Old Damascus is at night, late night, when only few people share its raods. Then, you'll feel as if you're back in time for 400 years, with the dim lights and your footsteps pounding the streets, no matter how light you'll try to walk. You wan't find many foreigners walking through it these days,... More

We stayed in The Old City during Xmas 2009. Just a few months before the Civil War started. There were old Roman tunnels and catacombs some of them converted to art galleries, cool cafes and wine bars. There were historical churches , New Testament landmarks . It was a cool minus zero temperatures . When the clocks struck midnight all... More

The Old City of Damascus always fascinates me year-in and year-out. On my last trip to the Old City the views along the Barada River were charming. When you walk along the old cobble street alone the walls of the Old Citadel, simply look to your left and you can walk along the Barada River. This makes for a true... More
