For the quechua culture (the inca descendents) the peaks of the Andes Mountain range where called Apus (quechua; lord), they are considered to be our grandparents with the white ponchos, that protect us and provide us with the most important element; water. In the city of La Paz, almost from every corner you can see the Illimani, the Apu, the... More

This is a beautiful mountain in the Real Cordillera. Is the guardian and visible from most of La Paz city. Is one of the most iconic landmark of the city. Its over 6000m, There are some specialized tours to conquer the mountain. All the habitants of the city love this mountain. The bad part is that gaciars are melting, probably... More

What can I say about All Transport Tours? First off, let me tell you that Richard Rojas, the owner, is a good man. There's no question about his extreme knowledge about tours around the area as well as other parts of Bolivia, but he is a better man than business owner. From the moment I was picked up at El... Over the course of 3 days I went with Bolivian Mountain Guides, to this majestic mountain. Eduardo and Pedro couldnt be any better at their job, from the food to the logistics everything was perfect, if choosing an agency BMG is the way to go. Illimani it´s a wonderful mountain, apart from a 200m ice wall (which is a great... More

I climbed Illimani with Eduardo from Bolivian Mountain Guides. We did some training beforehand and he also climbed Pequeño Alpamayo with me. A mountain experience depends greatly on a guide one is with and I am very glad to have chosen Eduardo! He is a very knowledgeable guide, with a sense of humor, mountains are his passion for real and... More

I saw it from La Paz, but the snow is gone. People talk about it having had much more snow in the past. What a pity!

This might be my favorite mountain. I recommend getting to know it. There are tours that go around it and up it. Some friends and I have biked around it and that's a fabulous ride. In the rainy months, it's hard to see from La Paz because of cloud cover. As usual with La Paz adventures if you go bring... More

Not sure how it actually looks like up close, but the view from La Paz is magnificent. Take the cable car, and you can have a better view.

We have never attempted climbing this mountain. This review is just about how beautiful and awe-inspiring it is. It is a large, gorgeous, majestic snow capped mountain in the heart of the Andes visible from the city of La Paz as well as the altiplano. While visiting the city I never grew tired of seeing this majestic beauty and it... More
