This is a part of town that is up and coming with restaurants and shops that meet the needs of the more sophisticated urbanite.

San Miguel used to be a far away suburb from the main part of the city but in the last 20 years it appears to have become the central part of the south zone of the city. What is appealing about San Miguel is the...More

This area is one of the best in terms of "safe shopping" from what I've seen in La Paz. Brand stores, nice coffee shops, almost everything you would like to buy, except the local handmade souvenirs. Prices are similar to the ones in Europe.

This neighborhood is 8 km south from downtown and a taxi costs around 30-35 BOB. It's a nice area to walk away from the city center chaos and grab something to eat, a coffee or go shopping.

Pizza places, Japanese, Indian, Peruvian. Just a small smattering of the types of food you'll find here. Accessible from the green teleferico line (which is a great view anyway). However pretty far out of the way from the main part of the city.

Not really a tourist destination but it is the heart of the middle/ upper middle class Zona Sur. A site of excellent restaurants and a variety of coffee shops.

Walking through San Miguel is much like walking through any expensive avenue in the United States. There are trendy shops, modern coffee houses, and lots of folks who speak your language. When in Bolivia it is great to mix with the locals and learn the...More
