- Irina H2 contributionsGreat views from above - I recommend ✨The views if the city are great. The stops are well marked and the security people very helpful. Very clean throughout. However, the windows could be cleaner and that would help with taking better photos. It’s not too busy. Probably the quickest way to get around the city. There was a fault though on The Red Line - it took quite a while to fix.Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 23 October 2023
- keith hChesham, United Kingdom1,168 contributionsSuperbly Engineered Network of Cable Car Lines. To my mind the top attraction in La Paz. The congested roads of La Paz & El Alto are to be avoided if possible . The idea of a cable car line connecting La Paz to the higher altitude neighbouring city of El Alto has been mooted since the 1970's. It became a reality in 2014 & now there are 10 different colour coded lines enabling people to traverse large areas of both Cities , so avoiding unnecessary pollution & consumption of time & fuel. Not only is travel incredibly cheap at 3 Bolivianos a ride but it is a fantastic way to see the Cities. Each cabin holds 10 people & many of the stations have cafes to hand. We rode the system for several hours , stopping occasionally for a snack or drink. Also we diverted up in El Alto to admire a panoramic view over La Paz. Also , at one stage , we took a short taxi ride to view the fantastic Titanic Cholets More Cholets can be seen as you ride the cable lines. We finished our rides after dark , enjoying watching the lights below. The ride up & down between La Paz & El Alto is spectacular. The whole system is clean & well run. Fantastic work of engineering. Spot the Mi Teleferico dogs wearing their jackets. They live at some of the stationsVisited October 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 21 November 2023
- Owen JOxford, United Kingdom49 contributionsBoth functional and beautifulThis mass transit system is an extraordinary achievement. The geography of La Paz is breathtaking, but difficult to navigate without the use of the telerifico. I travelled around the entire network and every line has its unique views of the city. It is cheap to use, immaculately clean and the excellent colour coded system makes it very clear and easy to use. The best way to get your bearings in this magnificent city by far.Visited November 2023Travelled soloWritten 30 November 2023
- 650paulManchester, United Kingdom84 contributionsDisability friendlyA great way to get across the city and very cheap. On arrival at the station staff were very helpful if you were disabled as we are. A great way to see the city from above. There are several different lines going across the city to different places.Visited January 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 14 January 2024
- Charlie NomadLa Paz, Bolivia5 contributionsA RIDE ACROSS TWO WORLDSWhen planned ahead, the ride might be worth every penny. Just make sure you buy a card with some "credit" in it should you plan on staying for a couple of days. Want my opinion? START the tour in downtown Purple line up El Alto, then take the silver line to the blue. Ride the blue across the biggest Flea Market in Bolivia. On the way back, take tje Yellow anf Green line all the way to the south of the city. It might take you an entire day. A must-do!Visited February 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 11 February 2024
- David BToronto, Canada417 contributionsPerfect way to get a feel for the city, with GREAT viewsWhat I liked most was that this was like a private slow motion flight over huge swathes of the city. This extensive network might be almost unique in the world, perfect for a city whose geography makes a subway impossible. Very easy to figure out, if you can buy a metro ticket in Europe, you can manage this, no need to book a tour and the ticket machines offer you an English option. You might be feeling the altitude your first day here, this is a fabulous non exhausting way to orient yourself. On a Saturday afternoon, I was almost always by myself enjoying the spacious gondolas. A couple tips. While already cheap to use, if you buy a card for a few dollars, you can charge it with some money and it has a declining balance. That was 25-30% cheaper when you make transfers on connecting lines. There are about 8 different coloured lines, all interconnecting. You pay 3 Bs each time you use one line, but connections are only 2 if you have the card. Most people recommend getting on close to where you stay, then doing a large circle counter clockwise, I would agree, took me 7 lines and 2.5 hours including some stops for photos, loved every minute. You can always distinguish locals by their bored demeanour as they gaze down to read their phone messages, from visitors enthusiastically gazing at the spectacular panoramas.Visited March 2024Travelled soloWritten 31 March 2024
- Kevin SPontypridd, United Kingdom7,058 contributionsWhat a wonderful transport system,What a wonderful transport system, excellent engineering and a credit to Bolivia. Most people are familiar with underground mass transport systems, London underground, Paris metro, New York subway but a fully functioning cable car multi line system is unique. Yes skiing regions have cable cars, usually only seasonal, and recreation, this is a city service. One way single ticket on a line 3BOB, but then when you connect, as they do at the coloured lines transit points, another ticket, another 3BOB. Ridiculously inexpensive. For us tourists not just an easy way to cover long distances across the cities but fantastic city views. Yes, cities, El Alto above La Paz is regarded as a separate city. If you want to travel multiple times in a number of days you can buy a card and load with a set amount for tap and go use.Visited May 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 27 May 2024
- SKielauRogersville, Tennessee10 contributionsMost fun thing in La PazMy friend and I spent all day riding around on most, if not all, cable cars. That was the most fun thing we did in the 3 days in the city. The views were amazing. One must get a pre-paid card and scan it before each ride. Since I was traveling with a friend, we only bought one card and scanned it twice each time.Visited July 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 16 July 2024

In January 2022, we took the celeste line to get to know the city without walking/ talking buses. The tickets are cheap (3 bolivianos a one-way tickets, there are probably combine-trip-tickets that we didn't get to know about), and the ride is really nice. We should also have presented covid vaccination documents when entering, but we're foreigners and were supposed to have this document (plus a negative PCR test) when entering the country; we explained this situation to the guard and he let us through. We speak Spanish though; I am not sure how this conversation would go in English, of if the people selling the tickets and guarding the entrance speak any. There are multiple cable car lines available, but you have to pay to enter each line if you are changing lines (it is still cheap though). The cars are cleaned regularly, as well as the stations. Overall, a relaxing way to know the city!

I've been travelling to La Paz for 15 years now and love the addition of Mi Teleferico to the city. Not only is it a great way to get around the city (assuming the stops are close to where you want to go), it is a fun and economical way to see the city. On our most recent trip, we rode the "loop" around the city and couldn't have enjoyed it more.

Probably the best way to get around the city, it's clean, safe, fast, and cheap.
Also it offers stunning views of the entire city. To ride, you purchase a fare card, and add money. Then you tap in at the fare gates, the display will tell you how much is left on your card. You can use one card to tap in multiple people, and the cost of the fare is usually 2-3 Bol between connection points. This is super cheap, and since everywhere in La Paz is steeply uphill or downhill at high altitude, it's a handy way to get around. Most of the stations have places to get food or drink, one I was at even had a supermarket attached.

Fantastic public transport city utilizing a cable car system. In a city of mass population, streets quickly become jammed with traffic. Many people commute daily using the cable car. Fast efficient and comfortable

Didn't think it would be that interesting. As soon as we soared from the center to the hillside in minutes I was glad I did go. La Paz basically has the center in the valley and many people live in the hillsides. The cable cars basically are like a flying metro connecting the different heights of the city. Its a practical way of journey. Tourists don't really need to use it... but you do get good views of the city. Buy a ticket for multiple line and it's cheaper.

La Paz's cable car system, Mi Teleferico, offers stunning views of the city's dramatic setting. This city is the highest administrative capital in the world at more than 3,500 metres above sea level.
We spent a good amount of time jumping from one colour line to another, absorbing this city from the many vistas. A very affordable way to see the entire city in a day.
We returned to our starting point at lunchtime to get a bite to eat and some cold beers and then continued on the cable car system for the rest of the day.
This is a must do when in La Paz!
Highly Recommended!

There is just no better way of enjoying La Paz than riding the cable car across town for just 0.5 US cents. Our group of 32 split in three groups and smoothly rode the green and yellow lines from the south district to the top in El Alto. Could not recommend this enough!

As of April 2023 the fare is $3 Bolivianos to ride a single line, with each transfer costing an additional fare. Riders can purchase and reload a tap card at each station, or borrow a tap card from the local hotel/hostel. Some stations have restrooms and concession stands. Each transit line takes less than 15 minutes to traverse. The cable cars have amazing views of La Paz. It is impressive and an excellent mode of transportation for such a heavily congested city. A must do.

The teleferico, with great infrastructure is a marvel and outstanding public transport system. With solar panels on each cable car, it ticks a whole lot of boxes and is a great way to get around this very hilly city.
And all for $b 3 per trip, it is a bargain.

Can you walk from El Alto airport to the cable car red line? if so how far/lenght of walk,
Written 10 January 2020
Potentially it's possible but I would strongly advised against it. El Alto is not a safe part of the city, regardless if it's close to the airport or not. Especially, if you walk around there with your backpack you make yourself an extremly easy target to be robed. I understand the taxi from the airport to the city is quite steep (70 bolivianos) but at least take a taxi to teleferico, don't walk it...
However, if you arrive late in the evening, please take a taxi all the way. La Paz is generally safe but, again, your backpack makes you very visible and vulnerable.
