Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

A long street , part " roofed " with up turned coloured umbrellas.
Many visitors to La Paz say it is a " must see ".
Well , I would not go that far. As I was staying fairly near to it & wanted some t - shirts I walked the length of the street & was not particularly impressed.
Undoubtedly , some may find interest in the Llama foetuses & other animal body parts plus herbal concoctions for sale - not for me , although those who find a practical relevance to these items will obviously appreciate their availability.
Does anyone think a Llama foetus is going to legally get through customs?
Even if I wanted one I would'nt fancy having to explain why it is in my luggage.
As for the rest of the goods on sale , there is some genuinely decent stuff but also a lot of tourist tat
Having said that , I was very pleased with the quality of the 2 T - Shirts that I bought.

I cannot say how excited and happy I was to visit here.
It was one of the reasons I chose the trip I did.
My llama foetus has pride of place on my mantelpiece and I loved hearing about the history and culture.
Do not miss out.

I travel to learn about the cultures of the world. I find our planet fascinating....even if i see dead baby llamas hanging in stores.
Look I am not one to judge...there that is all there is to say.
It wasnt as big as I thought it was going to be. The textiles were impressive and the area is cool to see.
Also, I am here mid plague...Bolivia is cracking down hard on all this 19 stuff soooo the streets arent as full of people as usual. I mean it is still a cool experience anyway.

Tourist trap and certainly not worth it. Just a couple of stores that sell all the same stuff that is made in China. The only thing is that they hang a Lama carcas in the doorway. Also very narrow streets full of traffic jams and a lot of exhaust fumes from cars.

I was disappointed in this place as it was not as quirky and weird as it had been made out to me by recommendations. It is much a normal market however a few stores have the skeletons of llama and alpaca fetuses. There are also a few bits and bobs that are very odd and would make for good gifts.

Quite impressive to still see that witches markets exists. Don’t take pictures of the ladies as they will else curse you!
For you to know, on El Alto market you can buy as well dried baby llamas! 🦙

- Lets just say I have never been to a market just like this one! Despite the high altitude in this country, i truly enjoyed walking around market. Everything you can find here are pretty much sovenirs but there are some shops that sell really weird and wonderful things that will get you thinking what they are and what can you do with it after you bought it. Nothing is overly expensive, you can definitely bargain with the sellers. We bought a Che Guevara's tshirt for about USD$5. Its not expensive at all!
- One thing i have to say is looking after your belonging. We dont feel unsafe there but there are a lot of people around the catherdral so its best to look after your belongings.
- Prepare to see really weird things there and its a truly eye-opener experience. If you dont visit the market then you probably wont understand Bolivia.
- Most of the stuff are cheap enough so bargaining with the stall seller is pretty useless and waste of time. While there are still some stubborn stall sellers who refused to bring their prices down too so shop at your own risk!
- Theres not a lot of food stalls or restaurants on this streets. Mainly cafes cater for gringos backpackers.
- One very good tip is you can get Yerba Mate, mate gourd, mate bombillas in a few shops here. Prices starts about 50 Bs for the gourd and same goes to the bombillas.
- This is a also a place worth taking very pretty pictures because all the traditional Boliviano ladies hang around here selling hot Tamales and steamed potatos.
- If you are here early in the morning on sunday, be sure to walk around the markets and locate the guy who sells cerviche. It is definitely worth that 15 bs per bowl! (see attached picture)

It's the same as every other market with around 5 stalls all with a load of dead llamas hanging in the doorway.
How does this even get a mention above the rest of the market stalls in the area.
You must be desperate if you go here especially to see the trash you probably couldn't get through customs on the way home anyway.

Located in the hilly streets above the San Francisco Plaza, these winding, narrow roads offer a large number of arts and crafts shops, aimed specifically at tourists. Also known as the Witches Market, this is a fun place to get some souvenirs or a bite to eat. It can be quite hard to climb the streets if you have any mobility issues.

Written 6 February 2019
Desconozco esa circunstancia exacta.
Saludos y salud, amigo viajero.

Hola!
Yo fui sola.

Gracias.
Written 13 May 2015
