The place was a bit difficult to find. We paid 50 bolivianos at the entrance and were seated with the locals on concrete seats. Most tourist book a tour, and are seated in the vip section: plastic chairs close to the ring. I'm glad we didn't do this. We had a great view and the atmosphere was much better with the locals who seemed to enjoy the show a lot. The VIPs are also likely to be a part of the show somehow.
It does get cold after a while and in some places the roof leaked and rain gets in.

We read before hand that there is no fighting, but acting. This is completely true. The acting is bad, but I still found it entertaining. Some of their moves were really impressive! The show repeated itself and it can get boring after a few hours. Especially when Spanish is the only spoken language, and we don't speak it. I probably won't go back, but it is definitely worth seeing when in Bolivia.

Cholitas is quite different from what you have seen.
I liked the fact that bolivian women are quite shy and there, I could see a different side of them. Ok it is a show, but it is quite a paradox! It is a local show where you can see them in "traditional" outfit with wrestling masks to "fight". It is funny and you can mix with the locals. You can take interesting photos while cholitas are in action.
In the end of the show you can take photos with them.
There is a toilet which sucks!!
You can buy some snacks, drinks and some masks.
You can go there by bolivia hop, although we saw some tourists who came without it. You pay more money with bolivia hop, about 15$, transfer is included from and to your hotel.
I do not remember how much the ticket costs in general, but it is very cheap.
You can organise with bolivia hop another meeting point to pick you up.
(I say this because we went after the Tiwanaku tour).
It is cold there. Wear warm clothes and shoes!

We booked tickets through a local travel agency HanaqPacha Travel for a Sunday night show. There is a shuttle bus for tourists which picks you up close to your hotel and drops you off afterwards. The ticket gets you entry to the venue, "VIP" seating (ringside), a souvenir (postcards) and snacks (popcorn and a drink), plus tickets to use the washroom (but you should avoid using them if possible - they are very dirty). The show lasted for about 2 hours, and the arena is full with locals and some tourists. The wresting is a bit hokey and over the top, but fun to watch for about an hour. By the second hour I was definitely ready to get out of there!

The Cholita wrestling which is a short walk from teleferico faro Murillo is closed on Thursdays. However there is a another Thursday location near the telerifico station Plaza La Paz (which you can get to from the Murillo station.)
Sorry to say I don't have the exact address, I asked locals with Google Translator where the place was, however if you get out at station Plaza La Paz and start walking back a few blocks towards the last station you passed (station Plaza 16 De Julio) you will a large sign for the Cholita wrestling.
The venue is quite colourful and a lot better than the one near Murillo station.

Otherwise you can speak to a tour company and they can take you straight there for a 80 bob!

Go with a tour (should run about 90 Bs). Transportation to El Alto and the entrance fee will not be any cheaper. Tours are available Sundays and Thursdays. Thursdays are more private, but Sundays are more fun. Most tours don't include much information about the history of the Cholitas, but it is worth knowing. It started as an outlet for women in abusive relationships to help themselves. "Cholita" was previously a derogatory word used to describe native, Andean women, but the Cholitas have taken it back and are now about to use it to show their strength. Most of the women employed come from poor backgrounds, so while this may appear to be a cheesy, fun tourist attraction, it actually really benefits the empowerment of native women which is so important in South America. The show is funny, and it is even better when you know a little history. One complaint: They definitely run on "Bolivia time," but you're in their country so get used to it. If they say you'll be back by 8, don't plan anything soon after...

Like the performance is not the best I have seen in "lucha libre", but worth go and watch.
But don't by it in travel agency or in your hostel, I could get it much cheaper with the cholitas around San Francisco Church, it was the pack VIP with transport included and a snack ( pop corn and a glass of coca cola).
The advantage of the VIP is u are closer and can get good pictures, get pictures with the cholitas and they can even interact with u during the performance.
I strongly recommend this show.

This is such a tourist-trap... don’t go there, it’s not worth your money... not at all. If you book with hostels, for example Adventure Brew Hostel, you pay 90 BOB and have to wait very long in the bus to pick everyone up. When you got in El Alto, it’s pure chaos. Freezing cold. Superfake show. Just don’t go and spend your money on some nice souvenirs or a nice dinner instead. This is just ridiculous and stupid.

Told I would be picked up at 3pm, picked up at 3.15, sir in bus opposite my hotel until 3.55, bus moves for 5 minutes, wait ten more minutes, repeat. Finally arrive at wrestling about 4.50. Freezing cold, snack is small bag of popcorn, drink is small Coke or Fanta, souvenirs are choice of badge, four cartoon postcards or tiny figurine.

Some enjoyed the theatre preformance, definitely not my thing. I expected some real wrestling. But locals seemed to be enjoying it.

Unimpressed that after the women finished it was photo time and tourists did this while locals watched the closing men perform.

Photo stop on way back down, to see the city by night from El Alto.

Guide was good at explaining what was happening.

Was an incredible time! You can do this on your own without a tour. Take the Purple line up to El Alto. Its Thursdays and Sundays at 5. Its safe, so dont worry. Don't expect WWE! Crowd participation is a must as the Cholitas will grab soda from the stands to smash the luchadors. I even got a kiss from one of the Cholitas!
